Annoying rattle in console...anyone else?

Truck in my sig has 11k on it and over the last few months has developed an annoying rattle in the console where your right arm rests while driving. It appears as though there is a loosening of the latching mechanism that does not hold the lower storage bin tight with its lid. When I wiggle the console lid I can feel where it is loose and duplicate the noise. It is especially annoying on cold mornings and going across bumpy roads and bridges.



I can either take it to the dealer to install some mole skin. Anyone else have this problem... just curious?

Yep! And the truck came from the dealer with some electrical tape near the latch. Makes me wonder if the factory picked up on the problem or the dealership. Mine's going to need more of something though...

yep , same here. i thought something small may have fell inside the latch. i was preparing to take it apart. the rattle is annoying. mine came with the piece of electrical tape as well.

I have exactly the same issue. I've had it checked by the dealer at each of its oil changes (coming up on the 15k in a week or two) and they have adjusted it, but it always comes right back. Its driving me a little crazy.....

LOL!!! After I posted this I checked and mine has the tiny piece of electrical tape as well. Based on the responses I guess I'll be adding a piece of moleskin to my 50K truck to fix it. Thank you gentlemen.

Too funny - I was looking at mine closer today and found the same piece of electrical tape! Its right behind the latch on the lower half of the lower compartment. I'm thinking about putting a piece of mole skin on top of the electrical tape and see if it quiets it down. I'll report back if that works - if anyone else finds a solution, please post up!

If it was mine I would do exactly that, take it apart and fix it, mine doesn't have a center console, so I will never have that issue, but that is me, I just do it, best of luck, it doesn't sound like much of a deal to take it apart

Yes that rattle my 12 has it funny the 02 and 05 never had it but they were much louder than this truck... . I solved it by stuffing it with a roll of microfiber towels, they were on sale at the parts house. They work so well stopping the rattle and keeping my Cd's in place I'm never going to use them... lol

I had the same problem and here's how I fixed it. I took a piece of velcro with the adhesive on the back. I cut a strip the width of the latch channel with enough to go from the top of one side, thru the bottom and to the top of the other side. Then I carefully peeled of the adhesive guard and installed it in the latch channel. That solved the problem and now the dealer is using this solution. You don't even notice it when you open the console. The rattle seems to be side to side movement so there is really nothing you can adjust to stop it.

I tried moleskin on the electrical tape and on one side of the console..... and it still rattles unless my elbow rests on it.

Alan if you don't mind please post a picture of your solution. I also have another console rattle ... sux on a 50k truck.

Here you go. Just put the single sided whatever you want to use in the channel where the lock goes. I pulled the left side up a little so you could see it. I will have to ease it back down in there. You can see how it goes from the top of one side, down to the bottom and across and up the other side (I hope). You can also see the Dodge installed piece of electrical tape is still there with no wear marks after 46K miles. You can see the wear marks on the velcro next to my index finger.

We did the fix to a buddies 2012 last night. He thought he had a rattle in the dash. He said it wasn't the console but the glove compartment. After I did the fix for him, we took a ride. No more rattle. It's a quick fix that works. Too bad the dealer won't do it. They told him they were going to have to pull the dash. He is going to show the fix to them.
