Torque Spec on Ford Escape Connecting Rods

DD - Toyota auto trans fluid change...

Thursday, I had the pleasure of pulling a Chevy 3500, with backhoe on gooseneck trailer, off the shoulder into the barrow ditch, while he waited for another truck to take over the delivery. He had made it about 50 miles from the Chevy dealership service department before something happened and he was trying to limp home. Didn't make it. My brother's '08 GMC Duramax started up Wednesday morning, only to die shortly thereafter and not restart. 10,000 miles on it. It did start and he drove it to the dealership and left it overnight. They couldn't find anything wrong. I bet that would leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling. But, I have had to replace an injector on my '07 3500 Dodge, but I got it in and out in 1 hr. Try that with a new Ford! I did tip the mechanic! My truck is my livelyhood. I don't get paid if I can't get my tools to the job.

Zion 6.0 moment.

The wife and had the pleasure to camp at Zion National Park in late April. One morning we heard a terrible racket and I immediately knew what it was: a 6. 0 w/injector problems. We looked over to another space and a guy had just started his Ford 6. 0 up. White smoke was pouring out of the exhaust and it sounded like a couple of pistons had let loose. It quieted down some as he hooked up his trailer and the poor guy limped off. I felt bad for him. On another tangent one of my offroad mags just published a fix for all the things that go wrong w/6. 0's and it went on for page after page. Sucks. :{

finally finished the 6. 0 build, coated pistons . 030 over, new port matched heads, port matched intake, egr and cooler delete, bd crankcase vent mod, arp studs, new stock injectors, cat and muffler delete and a new 07 turbo, cost around 7500. 00 for about 420 rear wheel h. p. , and yes it is tuned. it actually runs pretty good.

but for how long?? lol sorry couldnt resist. buddy of mine has a 06 F550, 14ft flatbed, 33ft gn, and had a tractor on its back... approx 12k tractor weight, 7k

trailer weight. If anyone knows the I-75 cut-in-the hill on 75s in N. Ky, he had me take his truck up threw there... i almost pulled over because I didnt think i was going to make it... started at the bottom of the hill 60mph+ and was doing 17mph iirc at the top... thermostat was pegged... i was pulling over and temp started to drop so i kept goin.

How can you do 17mph on a hill... with 4. 88 gears????

imho, all the big 3 for pickups are equally as bad or good depending on how you look at it. i purchased my dodge for the drivetrain combo alone. i am more or less happy with the truck too, but if the 5. 9/nv5600 was available in all 3, it would have been a toss up between all 3. might have ended up with a ford then... ?

I had forgotten to reply to this post back when the thread was first started by JWadford.

Your statement could only be within the realm of reasonable if, and that's a BIG IF, the trucks are to be used as daily commuter vehicles or steet racers.

If the three trucks are put into commercial service pulling heavy trailers every day, there is no comparison between the brands.

The Dodge is a tough platform that holds up well under hard usage and lots of miles. The Cummins engine is so far ahead of the other engines which are light duty V8s, it is laughable.

The Navistar and Isuzu engines drive and perform like gasoline V8s. Relatively short strokes compared to bore allow quick acceleration to high rpm Both of the competitor engines are quick on the street but fall behind in towing contests because they don't make their maximum torque until much higher rpm. The Cummins ISB in all applications makes max torque at just off idle, 1600 rpm or even 1500 in the new ISB6. 7 pickup version. That translates to easy grade pulling in higher gears at lower rpm and less fuel consumed.

Run either of the three engines 400,000 miles towing then come back and argue they are equal. I know better. I talked to MANY fellow RV transporters using Ferds and GMs. The 6. 0 Ferds suffered catastrophic failures, usually just after 100k miles. The Isuzus usually continued running but the engine and truck were completely used up by 300k miles.

A fellow TDR member is currently in Alaska (from Texas) pulling his fiver with his wife along. His '97 Ram dually had 670,000 miles on it when he stopped over at my place a month or so ago headed north.

Sorry, Dodge, Ferd, and GM are NOT EQUAL.

For the record, I never owned a MOPAR product (and never wanted one) until I test drove an '01 Dodge Cummins HO/six spd dually. After owning that truck you couldn't give me a Ferd or GM light truck.

If someone says, "I like GMs or Ferds", that is his own business. His money, his choice. But when he says, "they are all equal", he is simply uninformed or wrong.
