In most of the anti-theft threads there are several cautions about changing wiring under the dash is easily seen etc, etc etc.

OK, how about doing under the hood?, say the Crank Position Sensor or the Cam Position Sensor? The idea goes like this:

Cut any ONE of the wires that come off the CKS or CMS and put a 2KoolTech.com pulse wireless receiver in it with the relay to complete the wire circuit off the CKS or CMS that you spliced the pulse wireless receiver into where you cut. You tuck the pulse wireless receiver where ever you want that is well out of the way (probably spray paint it black as well). You run the pulse receiver wire up into the OEM wire loom that goes to the CKS or CMS so it is not easily detected.

I think I am right in that if the CKS or the CMS is not providing a engine rotating signal the ECM will not allow the engine to start.

You wind up with another key fob, so it is not going to be defeated if the theives got the VIN and had a key made and opened the door and used the correct key they had made.

Your 2KoolTech key fob can control up to 5 different pulse wireless receivers if you want to add other On / OFF type theft deterrents (lift the Fuel Control Relay B+(12 volt power) that powers the VP44 control circuits). Could also use the RM01 from fourwinds-ii.com, or sailorssolutions.com, or directron.com, same idea.

Just another idea, trying to build a better mouse trap.

Of course it does not do anything for towing the whole truck.

I think the thieves could look under the dash (not there), pop the ignition switch and change it (not there), do anything inside the truck (not there), pop the hood and start looking, hummm, now where is whatever we are not sure we are looking for going to be - GOOD QUESTION

Update: Commercial wireless remote.

Linx Technologies makes commercial wireless remote controls. The Full Size Handheld LINX CMD-HHLR-433 can control 4 relays in the receiver FCTN-RLY4-433. The relays are only 5 amps though so they need to control a power relay coil if you are controlling more than 4 amps or so.

The cost is about $29 for the handheld controller and $59 for the wireless Relay Function Module.

I'm looking at controlling the +5 volts to the Camshaft Position Sensor. If the ECM does not get a engine rotation signal from the CMS the engine will not start or run but will turn over.

Could also be used as a pre-oiler. Turn off CMS, crank engine for 5 seconds to get oil up into the journals, turn on CMS and start the engine.

Update:

I ordered the Linx Technologies commercial wireless remote control and receiver relay. The Full Size Handheld LINX CMD-HHLR-433 can control 4 relays in the receiver FCTN-RLY4-433.

I am going to start with the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMS), and cut the 5volt feed line and run it to one of the 4 relays. In wire loom etc etc etc.

The remote disconnecting the CMS 5 volt line will be for short stops. IF something happens to the remote, the cut 5 volt wire can be wire nutted back together in an emergency.

The Smarty program 0 that is a no start (and just in case they are carrying a spare ECM), and the mechanical ball valve in the fuel system will be for longer overnights.

I'll update as the project is completed.

NOW, to keep a potential thief from burning up the starter and/or running down the batteries, you could look into using another of the available relays to disable the starter...

Could always connect a relay to activate the recording of Joe Friday's "You have the right to remain silent", as the windows roll-up, dead bolts lock the doors shut, and the sleeping gas starts coming out of the dash. .

I like your twisted mind.

Bob, if it works will you market this?

From what I read in the other anti theft threads a determined thief could defeat the starter block very easily by going right to the starter and jumping it there. Maybe it would defeat the newbie thief, but I got the impression that a starter block was fairly ineffective. However see last paragraph as an idea.

Did I miss something?

I got the impression that most of what you need to do needs to be done under the hood as covertly as possible.

It is a game of: point, counter point until you make it so complicated, difficult or unbearable the thief can not counter point your point.

I have 4 points (relays) to work with.

A very significant concentration of tear gas or pepper spray in the cab has crossed my mind though, triggered by the starter activation while the CMS (or other sensors) is(are) deactivated. Probably illegal though.

Dirty Harry "Your feel lucky punk?"

If it is very effective, then probably just write it up so others could do the same. It would have to be tested by experienced attackers though.
