The Golden Voice isn't anymore

I'm going to get a small CB this week for a road trip out west next week. Found a used Uniden PRO0520XL that looks like it would do, however it dosen't have the original mike. The guy wants to sell me a used Cobra mike that has it's own battery, and a dial that goes to 9 or so. I didn't get the number off the mike if it had one. Looked kinda like a snake head (hence the name I guess).

Anyone have any thoughts on both the radio and mike? What's special about a Cobra mike?

Thanks, Ronnie

I have the the little Uniden radio, does what I need it to do. Tucks in nicely next to my dual bander.

I bought the 520 instead of the 510, since I like having the RF gain. . works great when we got a wagon train going either on or off road.

Cobra is another manufacturer of CBs, I've always thought that Cobra and Uniden are owned by the same parent company and some models are the same between brand names. The mic is an amplified mic. . or a "power mic". If it works, it sweetens the deal.

Both good names in the industry.

Here's it from their online-refurbished store...

My Uniden is 2. 5 years old and been used well. My Radio Shack CB's never lasted as long as my mots, unidens or cobras. I've had to throw away my old mots, cobra and unidens. . just never died, just started to look like , well you know.....

Get a Better Mic in the Future

Go with a D104-M6B Made by Astatic.

Its probably the best Mic out there. You can pick them from around $40-50.

Get a Good Antenna too, Tune it well below 1. 1 for SWR And you will be set!

Doug.

I'm kinda partial to the Road King 56 myself. It is a noise cancelling mic rather than a power mic. In a high background noise environment a good noise cancelling mic is hard to beat. Astatic makes a good noise cancelling mic, but they just don't fit my hand as well as the RK-56. However the Astatic is noticably lighter than the RK-56 and is comparably priced.
