My lift pump was just replaced under warranty in my 2002 HO with 38,000 miles. It did not even sound "sick" like the one in my 2000 truck that sounded very sick and went out at about 80,000 miles.

Just for the record, below is a copy-and-paste of the note I gave to the dealer describing the problem.

On start up my fuel pressure is at 14-15 psi. Normal wide open throttle pressure is about 7. For about the last month the pressure after a few minutes of operation has been dropping to about 4 at idle and to 0 at wide open throttle.

I changed the fuel filter. There was no change.

I drained the water trap. There was no change.

I thought it might be a problem with my fuel gauge. The electrical sending units can sometimes be flaky. I installed a mechanical gauge under the hood near the battery and it confirms the same pressures.

Sometimes the pressure drops within seconds of starting the engine, sometimes it takes several minutes.

If you bump the starter without starting the engine, the lift pump runs for about 30 seconds. The pressure will read 15 for a few seconds and then will drop to about 4. The sound of the lift pump changes but it sounds like it is running fine. I had a lift pump go out on a 2000 Dodge Cummins and it definitely sounded “sick. ”
