I glanced at the other ones, but didnt think they were similar problems. I just had my '08 in for the TSB to replace the oxygen sensor and everything two weeks ago. Today, driving up to Tahoe (6000ft elevation) my overhead display says Catalytic 80% full. Im wondering if the high altitude is messing with it or if the dealer didnt do something right. I also have a BullyDog PowerPup on it set on tow level. Should I run the DPF cleaning program in my downloader or remove the tuner and take it back to the dealer?

Remove the tuner and hope it is nothing major. These new computers maintain a lot more memory than in the past and if D/C wants to go to the extreme, they can get the parameters that your truck was running at which will show it had to have tuner on it.

That being said have you noticed a considerable increase in MPG with your tuner. That would be the only reason I would ever install a tuner. My C&C has only 305 HP but seems to pull the load quite well and don't see a need for more HP. It does not mean I wouldn't want more HP, just dont want to change the Cummins factory tune which is a good balance of all parameters and adds to the longevity of the motor. Better MPG would trump the factory tune if proven to not effect the life of the engine.

I have just 200 miles short of 20,000 miles on my 07. 5. Have not had any messages about DPF in my overhead. Have had several signals from the engine mulfunction light. Dealer said they would go away after several stop and start cycles and they did. I am looking for better mileage with after market "chip". Since I have had no other problems do you guys think I would be safe going that route? Jim Larsen

Not altitude

About 2 months ago, I spent two weeks up at Lake Tahoe and higher elevations. Didn't have a single problem, though I had a Truck Camper in the bed of the truck... so mine was working a bit and may have kept my EGTs a bit higher than running unloaded.

If you run into problems and need to head into the dealership, I think the one in Reno is the closest (depending on where around the lake you are). Seemed like a good (and pretty busy too) service department. Though, they did forget to reset the "oil change required" message after changing my oil:rolleyes:

Its a cabin we have up there. We live in the northern bay area. I read the other articles about driving it hard to get the EGTs up to clean the filter, but when the light came on, we had a little under a cord of timber in the bed and we were traveling uphill most of the time (sea level to 5800 ft)

As for the tuner, yes, we only got it to help with mileage. We have never used any higher setting than the tow setting. Right now it does about 18. 5mpg mixed driving.
