can someone please tell us if there is a pump in the tank of my 95. also when we pulled the cam could we have damaged tha lift pump, and is there a certain way the lift pump has to be installed, we just bolted it to the block after we put the cam back in.

Lift pump is only in the tank in the 3rd gens, I believe... 2nd gen 24valves might have a retrofit for a tank pump, I dunno. .

12v lift pumps are mechanical, and connected to the cam via a lobe rider. When you removed the lift pump, did you also take the rider out, and reinstall it? If you didnt pull the rider, you would have lost it in the oil pan, and the truck would never get any fuel. . As for reinstall, it only goes in one way, with the rider in place of course. .

good luck

we did not pull the pump all the way, we let it hang by the fuel lines. We pulled the pump away from the motor about 1"to 1. 5". Do you think it is enough to lose the rider into the oil pan?, And the truck did run for about 1 mile. We also pulled the rubber hose off the fuel pump(the bypass hose that goes between the pump and the pre-heater), then we pressurized the tank and got fuel out the rubber hose. we know that we are getting fuel to the pump, but the primer is doing nothing.

ya the rider is gone. so since we have to take the front end apart again do we have to take the cam back out in order to put the rider back on, or can you put the rider in from the outside in. This is gonna suck big time.

You don't need to pull the cam to re-install the pump and rider. Keep the rider in the pump, turn the engine until the cam lobe is closest to the hole then install the pump and plunger as a unit. It makes installation a bit easier to screw a couple of studs in the block and slip the pump over them and fasten with nuts and washers.

Getting the missing part out of the sump may or may not be necessary but would wouldn't be a bad idea. You may be able to retrieve it through the hole with a magnet on a flexible shaft.

Thanks Howard. We did get our parts out of the oil pan. We took the tire & wheel off the drivers side, took the plastic inner fender off, took starter off, unbolted oil pan & pulled it down and slid it to the drivers side as far as we could, then I used tin snips to trim the metal inner fender along side the shock tower. Doing this gave me access to actually get my arm/hand into the oil pan. I had a bright light shining down from up by the break booster. Ill get the new pump, get it installed, and hopefully be ready to go!

Glad to hear you got it out. Tough way to learn though... I recommend buying a Dodge service manual... Theyre available from genosgarage.com. Mine has saved my buttox quite a few times. .
