I hope you dont think I am stupid but, I ordered the new trans line from Dodge for the trans temp sending unit. I have not recieved it yet but I crawled under the truck and snaped a pic and compared it to the pics that TDR member "Bud" sent me. Will I have to cut and flare the hard line going into the cooler?? Take a look at the pics, the first one is the one Bud sent me and the second is what I have right now .

I kind of thought that this setup was a easy unbolt and put in the new line.

The new line will have the high pressure rubber hose on the end. It is a "bolt on" job - really easy. Only thing is, you'll have to remove the checkball out of the new line (so you don't have two drainback valves). The way I did this was to cut a piece of steel brake line with a tubing cutter. Then I put it in a drill and used the sharp end to ream out the rubber ball in the new line before I installed it. Thanks to Extreme1 for this trick tip! :D Oo.

Good luck!

The whole line from the trans to the cooler gets replaced? I think I get it now, I guess tommorow when I get the line it will be easy to understand. Thank you Fireman Dave. :D

Hey Dave The gut a DTT said to take the fitting out of the cooler and remove that check ball and replace the fitting back in the cooler and leave the chack ball in the new line. Are you saying that you took the check ball out of the new line?? Somehow that sounds easier.

Hot Rod:

Yes, the whole line gets replaced, and it will all be much clearer when you have the new line in your hands. You can see which one it replaces by holding it up under there - it's an exact replacement.

Yes, I yanked out the valve on the line, not the one in the cooler. I suppose it doesn't matter. I just did it that way on the advice of a fellow TDR member - worked out fine for me. By doing it that way, I didn't mess with the cooler at all - one less fitting to remove and replace, as I see it. I also used some thread sealer on the parts to avoid leaks.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Another Option

The replacement line is two pieces, a hardline that runs from the transmission to just short of the cooler and a small segment of soft line that connects the hardline to the cooler.

You can have a hydraulic shop make you a new soft line without the check ball fitting for around $10. 00. I think DTT sells the transmission line with that option.

When I did my old truck I had a heck of a time removing the check ball fitting from the cooler, had about a half of can of thread sealer cementing it in there and the bung on the cooler tank was angled toward the block.
