After not doin' much to my truck for a while, I am now adding a coupla' things that will make my drving easier... I'll be adding an exhaust brake and a converter lock out... my question is this... do you EB equipped guys use your ebrake on a daily basis... without towing something... ? I live in a rural area where there are few, flat straight aways... how does it drive... is there a lag between takin' your foot off the gas, and the brake butterfly closing enuf to slow you down ???

Yes. I turn mine on after I light it off and shut it off a bit before I turn the key to off - enough to drop the EGT's to about 300° F.

Depends on how aggressively you drive. My first front brake pads lasted close to 100,000 miles in my model year 2000 5-speed.

I use a Jacobs exhaust brake as part of my daily driver set up. I use it every day and rarely have to even touch the service brakes on my commute. It works wonders for cold weather warm ups also.

I use it at every stop light as I drive every day. The little ricers don't like all that noise at stop lights :-laf They shut there windows, darn the good luck.

The only time I turn off my Banks Brake is to use CC. Yes there is a short lag after lifting the foot. Regular use save a lot of wear on the service brakes. I often don't need them at all descending steep hills.

My Ebrake by Jacobs plus the cruise control holds the truck speed fairly steady on the way up - and down hills. It should be very steady on your 2001. 5 with the electronic (vs. vacuum) cruise control.

I went with the B-D. It sounds like something is wrong it they don't work together. My Ex-Brake will come on when going down a steep hill to keep my cruise close to where it was set.

My Banks controller works fine with my 2001. 5 auto with vacuum cruise. When cruise goes into coast the brake comes on, cruise back on the throttle and brake goes off. SNOKING

With an Auto transmission you need a smart controller of some kind. Lock to lock shifts are not good for a stock transmission. I did a complete DTT with billet input and 2nd gear cage and the DTT smart controller. Some times I use it in daily driving and sometimes I do not. With 4:10 gears and a 11,250 5er it work very well. SNOKING

I've got a BD and use it all the time, though I only turn it on when I want it to engage. There are too many times where I am just coasting along in traffic but not needing to slow down with the brake on.

Using it all the time has saved my regular brakes like crazy. I've got 90,000 on the current front brakes and should be able to get through until mid summer, maybe even next fall before I have to replace the pads. The rear disks are the originals and I've got 134,000 on the truck. The first set of front pads wore out in no time, but I didn't add the BD brake until I had 42,000 on the truck either.

I use mine on a regular basis. Basically, if the truck is running, the brake is on.

And let me tell ya, when the high idle and 3 cyl idle are engaged with the Ebrake, it makes some serious noise! But the EGTs were about 700 when I checked it once. Sure warms the truck up fast that way!

Thanks guys for responding... I went with the Autoloc from BD, partly because I have the BD exhaust brake... .

Here is my next ? for you... there are 2 ways to wire this setup together... 1 way the trans controller turns on the e-brake... the other way is the e-brake turns on the trans controller... . plus they have an inverter option that will disengage the OD when the truck starts to move after being started up... this is confusing to me. . I thought the truck was out of OD when it's stopped !!

I'll be putting on the EB this weekend, along with my new exhaust, but unlikely will have the time to wire it all up... any help from that wealth of info the TDR members have will be greatly appreciated. .
