Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Another Fuel Heater Leak HELP!!

Well my fuel heater here in Florida apparently came on this morning and something happened and now I have fuel coming out of the black plastic cover that has the heater harness going in to it. I did a few searches and there are a few things you can do to fix this. Some people have punched out the heater tapped the hole and put a plug in it. Some have used a freeze plug and some have used JBweld. If you have used the tap and plug method what size have you used? Also would jbweld hold? Not sure with all the vibrations. I have unplugged the heater since I will never use it. I want to stay with the stock canister configuration. Any info you can provide me would be greatly appreciated!

So far mine just has RTV silicone gooped up on the black plug and around the wires. Not leaking a bit. I do have a 2002 style filter housing I'm going to replace the old one with, though.

well what about this? i thought you could not take it apart? or is it that they dont sell the parts anymore?

They don't sell the parts anymore. The whole assembly has been supersceded by the newer drop-in style and Cummins or Dodge will sell you a kit for about $700.

I have stock filter housing take off parts here from F. A. S. S installs. If your thinking about upgrading to a fass system you will not need the stock filter housing.

My brother is having the same problem with his 98. Is there an easy fix to this? Is there an aftermarket place to just replace the leaky fuel heater? He lives in Nevada near Vegas, would he survive without the fuel heater if he chooses to just tap and plug it?

I don't believe it ever gets cold enough in Vegas to require a fuel heater. His best bet may be to tap and plug it. If he chose to take a trip north during the winter, he may wish he had it then. For the most part he should be okay down to 10* F without it.

I live in west-central Idaho and have survived temps down to -4F with no heater. Of course spending the better part of winter in Mexico helps too!

Vegas would be a piece of cake. A little anti-gel and forget it.

Where do you guys get these illustrated parts catalogs??? I want one for the truck and engine.
