Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Another KDP bites the dust

Well after about 6 hours of hard labor my dad and my good friend finished the KDP fix on my friends 97'. We decided to do it the long way and remove the radiator, intercooler, fan, and timing cover. It's amazing how much stuff you have to remove to get to the dowl pin. Oh well it had to be done and my friend feels much better now that it is done. Next Saturday it's my trucks turn so wish me luck

You really did not have to remove the radiator. Just the fan, fanbearing, belts, vibration damper and timing cover. Well anyway your done and yes it is peace of mind.

That would probably be the easiest way to do it, but my friends truck was leaking a little bit of oil from the timing cover gasket so he needed to tear it all down anyway to replace the gasket. My truck has to be tore down in the same way since my truck is leaking oil from the harmonic balancer seal. I'm also curious to see the wear on the timing gears since my truck has about 200,000 miles plus on it. Should be interesting to say the least, and I'll be sure to let everyone know what condition my timing gears are in

Well guys just finished doing my dowl pin and boy I am happy camper. The dowl pin on my truck was approximately half of the way out. Glad to have got it now than later when I need a new engine thats for sure. After examining my timing gears I was surprised to the great condition they were in and how clean they were. My truck has approximately 200,000 miles on it and the gears looked just as good as my buddy's 97 with 40,000 miles on it. Well happy truckin to all...
