Could I weld a small button over the dowel pin hole to keep the dowel pin in place. I have to remove the rear half of the gear case cover anyways to repair a gasket.

TIA

I guess so, if you trust yourself or the welder that the "button" can get loose. I do have concern about cleaning the cheap grade of cast aluminium for a stellar tig/heliarc process. The less potential parts that can come apart the better in my opinion.

You could also get the updated case that has the "blocker" that would prevent pin fall out.

Since the case will come off anyway, what not "jig it. " With it off the engine, I would think you could measure, mark and eyeball close enough to stake the hole, even without the special jig.

The longer housing bolt and cummins tab is an option too. I think Joe George will send you his instructions on how to home fabricate a tab or maybe he even sells them, not sure.

Good luck

Andy

I don't sell them. I just send out the instructions on how to do the job and how to make a tab. I have a few tabs I made when I had some spare time to just mess around. I use them whenever I do a tab job for someone.

harold [tdr member hbowers] makes both the jig kits and tab kits his email -- email address removed --
