I`m a bit hot right now. It all started last thursday night on my way to work. I`m crusin along, get off the bypass and it dies. After a few tries it refires. I go on to work. Next morning fires right up so I drive straight to dealer`s service department. Guy takes it right in. Two hours later he calls me out . Can`t find a thing wrong no codes no symtoms. Meanwhile truck`s sitting there running. He say`s well you might as well let us wash it. I say ok. He hops in drives it fifty feet it dies. He checks sure enough Lift Pump Dead. He says I`ll go get one, comes back You gessed it they ain`t got one. It should be im tommorow he tells me. Well that was friday and this is monday evening. I just got off the phone with them. Not today, maybe tommorrow. Plus I stopped in sunday afternoon to get some things out of my truck,And it`s sitting out in front of the building UNLOCKED. Lucky for me nothing was missing. Sorry for the long post. But my point benig. If DC can`t put a reliable pump on Then why the #%*+ don`t the stock pile them. I`ve gone 4 days now with a borrowed vehicle. And who knows who has been crawling on and in Mine. I propose that all of us on this forum, sign a petition demanding that they [DC] remedy this situation :-{} Thanks for letting me rant.

I hate those words. Cant find any codes, what happened to using a wrench and your brain. I know what your going through I am on my 4th lift pump. My stealer ship was out for my last one but they were able to get one next day from another dealership.

I had the same problem, cruisin along about 55mph, dies, to the dealer, not the one I bought it from. Two days and one lift pump later, she's back. <10k

I feel your pain and frustration dealing with these bonehead dealers. My first life pump replaced under warranty (before bombing) took 3 days. By the time I factored in car rental and hassle factor of dealing with these imcompetent and arrogant a$$holes, the 150. 00 I had to pay for the lift pump is well worth it. When the second lift pump failed, I replaced it myself with the spare I've been carrying around. Great thing I had a fuel pressure gauge.

WHere do i sign the petition at LOL. Somehow I dont think that this would even get DC squared away. We pay ALOT of money for out trucks, MOSTLY just to get the Cummins. Maybe they dont realize that I would drive a different brand if it had a Cummins ISB. We kinda get treated like the red headed step child around the service dept. Atleast thats how i feel. Sorry for the rant but every time I read a bad service story I get worked up, having had my fare share.

From what I understand,"very little" the lift pump is a Cummins installed part that was spec'ed out and installed on the engine as part of their package. When I talk to the Cummins tech guys they don't really perceive that the lift pump is that big a problem, pointing out that they are on school buses ect. and working reliably. Ain't it great that it's nobodys fault and we are all just a bunch of idiots breaking these pumps intentionaly. I would love to sign a petition. How can we all unify and make a statement?

I'll sign too! My truck is now in for a rear end. Wonder what this fight is going to be like? What else falls off these trucks?

Yes it`s the original, 39,000 Still Stock. Now maybe my wife will see why I want gauges. If I get time I`ll work an a form letter For everyone to copy, sign and send. :-{} Who knows maybe someone will take note of our plight.

When mine went bad they kept mine for three days. Had to dalay planned trip to Florida. Was told dealer not allowed to stock pump. They first have to call in and do certain test before DC will release a pump.

When mine went bad I called the dealer and they said to bring it in the next day, anytime that was convenient for me. 30 minutes after I got there I had a new lift pump and was headed home. Trust me this is one of the first times my dealer did not waste my time or do a sloppy job. It's kinda like playing craps with these guys. Not bad guys just not very professional. If you are lucky they put one of their good diesel guys on the truck.

Not a perceived problem according to...

Cummins. On my fourth lift pump at 75k and Cummins Intermountain, Inc. says it must be something I'm doing. They used to sell alot of them a couple years ago but since they upgraded (?) the pump they only sell one or two a month (according to them). Their clueless about the problem associated with the tank location but I still think buying/installing yourself to avoid the dealer is the way to go but at a $160 a piece and a six month warranty it gets a little frustrating. A fuel pressure gauge setup is a must. I'd sign a petition too just to make me feel better.

Has anyone installed an aftermarket fuel pump close to the tank

to help the lift pump? I have read of it being done with good

results. Holley and Carter make pumps with 100gph and 14 to16

psi.

Thanks Chuck E.

My LP recently went ^^ still under warrantee. By the time I figured dealer aggravation, time without truck, risking the fact that the dealer may not have one in stock, and having to un-do a few minor bombs (comp etc) I went to Northeast Cummins $140 across the counter and changed it in the driveway at home in 30 min. No aggravation. (other than a LP gone goofy at 34K)

TDR issue 37, page 48, under 24V engines lists the latest new ( ?) part number for lift pump replacement. Gives both D/C & Cummins numbers. Does anyone have feedback on this pump yet?

I replaced my dead one with one of them. Still working after 12K miles and I hope it keeps working :)
