Over the last few days my truck has been taking several cranks to start as opposed to the usual 1/2 to 1 crank. Today I noticed the lift pump did not cycle when I turned on the key. I bumped the starter and the guage jumped up to 15 for an instant and fell back down. Not the typical 20 second cycle. Once I start the truck it idles at 14 PSI and I can pull it down to 9 PSI at WOT. Is my lift pump dying?

My 2c would be to change the fuel filter first. If that does not help, then perhaps you do need a new pump. How many miles on the pump?

There has been a lot of posts regarding the lift pump failure. I just changed mine at 107,000 miles although the old one was still good with 12 idle/7 wot. Now I have 17/12. That is the same pressure that it had for 3 1/2 years. It just needed changing  . Just did not want to do it on the side of the road.

I changed the fuel filter and it sort of fixed the problem. Now the lift pump only cycles before the truck starts after the truck has been sitting for a while. Still the same fuel pressures. I'll go ahead and change the lift pump pretty soon and carry the current with me as an extra.

My experience with the plugged filters is that if the fuel pressure reading jumps at least 1psi you best keep an eye on it. If the warnig light comes on once I start looking for someplace to stop.
