Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) External Trans Filter

Fuel pressure is from VP connection.

Fuel filter just changed. No crud in canister.

Problem: my pressure is down to ~12 @ idle. (was 15) Heavy throttle can get down to ~5 (was never below 11)

Is this typical of a dying lift pump? I am going to get a spare anyway but was wondering what to expect out of this one.

Thanks

Tom

Doo-do-dooooooo, doo-do-dooooooo. (sounding taps over your lift pump).

Yup, sounds like it's on it's way out.

Do you have a "full time" fuel pressure guage, or a "Briar style"?

It could last a couple of months or a couple of days.

Keep an eye on it. ;)

Was afraid of that

Yes, its autometer full time.

Thanks for the reply. Also on one short trip ~1 hour about 40 minute into the trip the pressure really dropped (like down to 1-2 lbs) so I brought it home and changed the filter. Haven't tried that length of time again yet but will this afternoon getting the spare.

Thanks again

Tom

hate it when your right

New pump in and pressure back up. Now can't get below ~11 no matter what.

This sucks. How long will this one last?

Anyway, thanks

IF ya have the time and inclination, might be educational to disassemble the pump - paying special attention to the built-in fine mesh screen filter - it might just need cleaning to return it to service - of course, careful inspection of the rest of the pump, rotor, bypass valve, etc. , is a good idea as well...
