Well JKloppe lost his second mallory fuel pump in less than one year. What other options are there? His setup is: Pump at the back then filter then pump 3/8 line then another filter. There are no banjos.
The Product Engineering PE4100 or PE4200 are great. I suggest you do a search on those to read some of the comments.
In a nut shell;
They are internally bypassed so they won't burn out.
The PE4100 is factory set at 12-14 psi the PE4200 is set at 18-22 psi
They are compatible with diesel fuel
They have a 2 year warranty
They are 7 vane self priming.
I put over 10K miles on my PE4100 and then upgraded to the PE4200 not due to any problems but because I wanted to check it for wear. I had one of the first PE4100's used in our applications and wanted to inspect the internals. I have not had a chance to take it apart yet.
Anything you can do to reduce unneeded head pressure will extend the life of the pump - ANY pump. I have an external bypass on my added Carter pusher to reduce overall fuel system pressure as well as the pressure the Carter must work into - this reduces the current draw of the motor as well as at least somewhat lowering brush wear due to that current draw.

BUT, eventually, all DC motors like those used in our lift pumps WILL fail due to electrical failure, if not mechanical failure... About the best we can attempt is to extend that time!
How many miles are you all typically getting from these pusher pumps? I see people posting about once a year replacements and such. At that time frame about how many miles have they driven?
I am just curious if I can plan to replace it once a year or more often.
My own pusher setup is too new to comment - but the transfer pump I use is the same Carter type, and moved onto my '02 when I sold the '91 it was originally installed on - and has been in use for 12 years and still works perfectly - but obviously, does not see steady use, plus, hardly any back pressure in fuel transfer service...
I know their are plenty of guys that put me to shame on the mileage, I am kind of in between. I run about 40,000 a year. I was wondering if maybe I should consider keeping a spare in the truck for a roadside emergency.
I use a HP Version of the carter. It is Rated at 100 GPH and 18 pSI max. I mounted it by the tank so it is a pusher setup and bypass the stock system from the tank to the Filter. I mounted the Pump on the outside of the frame rail so I am able to test or change the pump in a few minutes. I see 12-13 psi at idle and 7-10 at WOT with DD3's and a Drag Comp. 425+ hp
The Part Number is HP4601..... There are several places that sell these pumps. I have been happy with the life I get out of them. Especially for the price. Email me for sources or pricing... Kurt
I'm with you, Kurt... The 4601 is a great pump. My first one lasted 60,000 miles, which is excellent. I too have mine by the tank, with 06AN line from the tank to the injection pump. I can't pull the pressure below 8 psi, and I am running 400+ HP. Best parts about the Carter pumps: cheap, reliable, and readily available.
