Spread to people by infected mosquitoes

EEE virus is a rare cause of brain infections (encephalitis). Only a few cases are reported in the United States each year. Most occur in eastern or Gulf Coast states. Approximately 30% of people with EEE die and many survivors have ongoing neurologic problems.

It’s been around Southern New England since before I was born. I remember as a child being told to wear a long shirt because “ The Sleeping Sickness “ ( E.E.E.) was around. 4 cases this year in R.I. One adult, one child, one horse, one goat. The adult died. It’s the first year for aerial spraying here in a decade or more. We had an unusually wet spring and summer which as we all know propagates mosquitoes.

Guess I have lived a sheltered life as I never heard of this or the kissing bug.

We have kissing bugs in Ca; especially where I live. I'm almost always in jeans/boots and long sleeve shirt everyday. And the rare times when I do where short pants and t-shirt, I always get bit by something. My wife makes fun of my tan neck line, my tan hands and white arms and legs.
