Another MPG ? Is this right?

Empty I get 27-28 mpg (Cdn gallon that is, eh!)

Pulling 7k trailer I go down to 14-15 MPG.

Does this seem right?

MPG - Imperial That Is

Sounds a bit high on the empty MPG but the towing MPG sounds about right.

On our current trip I am getting 26 mpg solo driving 60-65 mph and around 14 mpg towing a 10,000lb 5'er.

Doger22 is getting 26 and 14 miles per imperial gallon. One imperial gallon is 1. 201 US gallons. Therefore, Doger22 is getting 21. 6 and 11. 6 miles per US gallon. Still fairly good.

Best I can get is 19mpg empty and 11. 5mpg towing 12500lbs. Don't understand these guys that get 20+ mpg

BigMike -- I CAN get 23. 5 MPG (US Gallons) but the ONLY time I can do that is long trips on flat interstates and speed at 65 with no city driving. Towing with a number of mountain passes and I'm down to 12 to 13 mpg pulling 7300 lbs. That's with a stock auto and 3. 54 rear end.

just a word of warning...

when I 1st got my truck I was truly impressed with the mileage.

It went down slowly, down to what was a 1mpg less or so. But still way better than a gasser... .

Just figured I was paying the price for having fun with a sleeper... (foot getting heavier on the pedal).



After my lift pump was replaced, when checking by calculator (I dont have a trip computuer) my mileage went up about 1mpg or so for the last two tanks!!



If you dont have a FP gauge... get one and check your LF's pressure.

Thanks for reply guys. I guess I'm in the ballpark. Thought maybe it should not be that big a difference.

btw... I got 27. 5 mpg travelling Timmins to North Bay (300cliks) at 100kph and from North Bay to Toronto to Niagara Falls (400 clicks) at 110-120 kph. Generally flat going. But I also got some stop and go taffic for about 1 hour.



Be going back in 2 weeks to pick up the trailer and will check again.



I noticed one time while pulling on gravel roads for about 120cliks, in 3rd lockup and 1,250-1,500 rpm that my fuel guage hardly moved, and on that trip had good overall mileage.

I think low RPM is the trick especialy if you can tow at 1,250-1750 RPM.

like wmeyers, I have hit a high of 23. 5.



I tow around 10K of a 32' long, 12' high 5th wheel, 2 weeks ago I made a trip to NJ and made a point of running under 65 just to see what kind of MPG I could really do. 13. 9MPG



I have seen as low as 11 towing fast, in the hills of PA.



Now my 1800 lb slide-in camper with a 500lb motorcycle trailer in tow I get low 15's doing around 70mph.



Keep in mind thats with 2wd, 3:60 gears, manual trans and Highway rib tires (cooper SRMII's) and synthetic oil in motor/trans and rear, plus Pacific Pride fuel which has been treated with Amsoil Citain booster.

I'm totally stock. I average about 20. 2mpg in heavy Seattle traffic.
