Oo. well NADP's barry voltner pushed his customers '04 truck to a 11. 70 @115 this weekend. this was with a single turbo (industrial injection's) and single stage nitrous. his second pass after this was lanched even higher @ 22 psi and 0-60 was 1. 47 :--) as soon as lock up hit the flex plate shattered and the transmission locked up, and slowly coasted to a 18. 00 ET, so this run was heading to be another record breaker, i hope to set the next record, on diesel--i am too running into some problems. congrats to NADP. keep up the good work :-laf

That is awesome, this year looks like there are going to be some really low numbers for 3rd gens.

That is obviously fast and at a "what breaks next" level. That is the second report I have read of a 3rg gen hitting 11s and then nuking something. That power level is going to find all the week links and create a few more looks like.

So what transmission did he have so I know not to get one. . LOL

it was not the builder's fault, everything was billit and race ready, there just comes a point where the 48re is at it tq limit, brett's transmission, my transmission and barry's transmission, have busted right at the 15-1600 lbs tq level :--) :-laf

Oo. your right, had i not had something wrong with my cp3, i also would have busted 11's, 12. 1 @ 115. 7mph has it writen all over it  , and that was with a floor-it stage 1 pump, my latest combo im sure will make it happen, it just goes to show that you just cant throw some boxes together and expect it to make power, we ( I. I, NADP, and NGM ) have been doing a ton of R&D to make these truck work, this summer( next few weeks ) you will see some awesome times with a 3rd gen

Tell me that wasn't a Billet Flex plate!

I can't imagine a billet one letting go... If so, thats some SICK power off the line

I hear that a tst box on a 3rd gen can make 1200+# torque or more and make a conFE slip at 1200rpm. Hence the reason for the higher plate load... .

hmmm May these mighty automatics justa re so mighty and race-able as one might think?

then again your trying to make 7000# move it's first 60 foot really fast, I suppose not much could handle that.

Anyone put a line lock on these trucks yet, yea know to build boost with a double disk and not look like your sleeping at hte light trying to pull the parking break lever?

thinking off the top of my head, it would be neat to wire up a disenguage switch on the go peddle, so once you move your foot that millimeter past a certain point the line lock lets go and you have 20+PSI off boost with a 6 speed and rolling outa the hole in 3rd. I don't think any auto could match that 60 foot time.

Oo. well here is a update, it seems the t-case is what failed--the chain in the t-case broke and got jammed up and forced the transmission to rip the BILLIT flex plate in half :--) the transmission and motor appear to be fine. we will no for sure later this week as it is all torn down. seems like every time someone launches over 20 psi bad stuff happens he launched at 24 psi:-laf also the t-case is now the weak link it seems!!! can any one make a stronger chain?

Early transfer cases were all gears inside. No chains. The weakest part of any machine is what will fail under that kind of load. JH

is there a all gear unit that will work on 3rd gens? if so then i want one, as far as i know the chain drive is all that we can use

I want to see you truck. Wait. I WANT TO SEE YOUR TRUCK!! When you get it back together can you let me know where you will be racing so I can see it?

Oo. i've got your # you will be one of the first to see the new rig

When you say Billet - is that Aluminum Billet? From a reputable racing flex plate mfgr?

I'd be inspecting those every few races. Your putting a tremendous amount of rotational load through it, and over time it will weaken. Just a thought.....

i belive that it was a ats flex plate, and those are stout plates, just imagine how much force was applied to the flex plate when it broke---he was mid track wide open then the wheels locked up. i dont think anything would have lived through that. but yea it is a good idea to keep a eye on things. :-laf

205

I dont know much about trannys, However if the 48 re out put shaft is anything like a 727 a 205 Gear to gear transfercase would work. Some custom crossmembers and shafts.

I agree with caveman on the atlas transfer cases. They take SERIOUS abuse... If I ever have a problem with mine Ill put an atlas in.

apparently barry has launched this truck at 15-20psi at least 150+ times, so as long as you rebuild the t-case every so often you should be ok--about $500- alot cheaper than the alternative
