The 6.7 CTD Rumor..

Dirty oil at 500 miles?

I just purchased a 2005 2500 slt 4x4 quad cab. How can I tell what cummins it has it it. someone said it was a 325ho but I also see when looking at accessories that there is a 600. I am lost on whats what.

Ive got alot of learning to do!!!!

What can I do and not do with warrenty crap?

Congrats on the new rig! You will like it. If you get the factory shop manual it has break down of the VIN coding. If you have the 2005 I bet it is the 5. 9L High Output. I have not heard of a 600, the 5. 9L HO has 610 pounds-feet of torque and 325 horsepower. I have heard the 5. 9L refered to as the Cummins 610, the previous generation Cummins made 555 lb-ft of torque so I am really at a loss as to where this 600 number is coming from. Any way enjoye the truck! :)

All 2005 CTD's are rated at 325hp. Some were rated at 600ft lbs of torque and some were rated at 610 ft lbs of torque. There's not much you can do without potentially affecting warranty coverage. You can probably do a set of guages without compromising warrranty, but from there it can get a bit dicey as to what they can use to deny coverage to a certain component. That depends a lot on your dealer as to what they'll overlook and what they won't. I took my truck into the dealer I bought it from for a U joint replacement under warranty and they didn't even mention the fact that I run a TST box and have put on a free flowing exhaust (no cat, MBRP muffler, etc). Some dealerships have been rumored to want to deny even simple things like that based on similar mods.

HI! Welcome to the site! The 325 someone told you about is probably what horse power they thought your engine is but I'm not aware of a 325 yet. I have a 2nd gen though so I'm not for sure what the hp ratings are up to now. I was thinking that 310 was the max hp that was avaialable right now but I could be mistaken. The 600 would be the foot pounds of torque the motor has, if indeed thats what motor you have. I think the brand new trucks are rated higher than that now though. Fill in your signature and tell us what year truck you have. That would help us help you with information. There's lots of guys on here that have 3rd gen trucks that know alot more about them than I do. As far as warranty crap, what do you mean? Do you mean what mods can you do and still have your warranty? If that is what you mean, theres not much more than gauges that won't void your warranty if the dealer wants to be stingy. If you can prove what mods you made weren't the cause of the problem they have to fix it but that can be costly to try and do. well hope that helps! Mike

I found a sticker on the side of motor that said it is 325hp.

I was at a aftermarket shop yesterday and the guy I was speaking with said you need to find out which motor you have first before doing any mods. He said that there were two different engines for 2005 one has 325 and the other is 400hp... . Anybody know if that true?
