I'm so Excited

Oil Pressure Question

You may have seen in my other post that I may be buying a 2001 3500 6 speed CTD 4x2. Actually, it is between this truck and a 1999 3500 CTD 5 speed. The trucks have similar mileage (about 100K), but the price difference is about 4K!

If the trucks are in similar condition, is there something positive about the 2001 (or negative about the 1999) that would make me spend the extra 4K? Actually, I'm leaning towards the 2001 model, mainly out of fear of the older 1999, but this isn't based on much anything.

Thanks!

Paul

Spend the money and get the newer truck for several reasons, 1 the 6 spd is better for towing

2 99's have 53 blocks

3 99's have more chances of dieing Injection pumps

4 01 should be a "ho" a little more stock hp

Are they both 4x2's?

Craig, great. I was aware of the 53 blocks, but I didn't know what the chances where that I would get one. And I guess if it is a 2001 6 speed, the engine IS a high output. Yes, they are both 4x2, but this is what I wanted for towing (and a manual transmission)

One more thing is that the "01" maybe a late 01 and it may have disc brakes all around instead of drums in back like the 99 will have. I like my 99 but if I had a choice of identical trucks I would go with an 01 also.

Bad news for me: I "decoded" the VIN, and it appears that I have the standard output, rather than the HO, 2001 6 speed. I wonder what percent of 2001 6 speeds got the SO rather than the HO. Oh well, I guess I'll have to get the engine up to HO specs.

Your first power mod will take care of the SO/HO business. I got 130 rwhp with mine--back then.

Wade, I hope the Bomb bug won't bite hard. I have an 850 hp 95 Toyota Supra that has much of my time and money in it. The truck will be my 4th turbocharged vehicle. It is hard to leave stock boost settings alone!
