Another NV-4500 question-to paint or not to paint?

While the adapter for the transfer case came painted, the case of the transmission was left bare. I know that heat is the enemy of transmissions but I imagine that a bit of rust after a few years-along with an accumulation of road dirt and whatever-would also potentially inhibit heat dissipation.

Is there any consensus on if a transmission or transfer case should be painted or left bare?

I painted mine black , so it will dissipate heat , semi transmissions are painted and so are other ,so why not

In the absence of a spray booth, compressor and other things for an expensive paint job the NV-4500 and NP-205 are now black with some Ace Epoxy Enamel...

Funny thing about the transfer case is that the shop that inspected and re-sealed it told me "Don't ever let that one get away from you!"

Seems those guys think highly of the old cast iron -205 transfer case!
