Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) question on S400 turbo

I'm sure you all have heard this before but I am new here and don't really know what my options are. I just bought an '02 2500 and had it about two months. I just lost my lift and injection pump this week. Took it to the dealer in town and expected warranty to cover the repair. Truck has 80k. Well I found out today that someone before me had installed a box that tapped the pump wire and so no warranty now. Is there anything I can do like get a junk pump from someone that hasn't been modified and turn that in or any other ideas. If I have to buy it all, is there a better aftermarket pump to purchase or just stick with the vp44? Any help is much appreciated.

you might try contacting a fuel injection shop that rebuilds vp44s and see if they will give you a used psg with an untapped wire, you will have to have it towed to the dealer after installing it but at least the wire wont be tapped.

the dealer may tag your vin number noting the wire tap.

Prolly a big negative on that one Bob. I work at a dealership and the dealerships are very individual about history. Dealerships are only allowed "x" amount of dollars for warranty work each month or quarter depending on the size of the dealership. If the "x" amount of dollars is exceeded it comes out of the dealerships pocket. It really controls the amount of parts thrown on vehicles under warranty. So dont be surprised if they turn you away just to save them some money. I would have asked the writer to show me this tapped pump wire to be sure he wasnt bull****tin.

I would get another "bad pump" installed with an un-molested pump wire and have it towed to another dealership and say "it just died, fix it":D

Good luck,

Sean
