Ok I've been fighting with my new truck I started BOMBing it shortly after purchase. It all started after dynoing very low with a modified plate and PDR 370's.

Anyhow I've longed to find out where the timing was set, and we actually had the truck tore apart once trying to do the timing. However we came up with a off-the-wall reading on the dial indicator. It was like 11. ?mm of lift.

I had already been told that my timing was probably already high, and that I needed to have it checked.

Spoke with who the previous owner of my truck said timed it and he said the lowest it would have been set would have been 20* if not more.

I've spoke with several different people, and tried to find out as much info as I can and I am still pluzzed.

The truck runs pretty good, relatively strong, but not near as good as my last 97 5spd with a #10 and the same 370's.

EGT's do not exceed 1200* and that's on an EXTREMELY hard run to get that far. Interior noise is VERY LOUD, in fact I've ridden in a friends 95 with stock timing and it was SO MUCH quieter I was so envious.

After talking with as many people as I have I still get a 50/50 answer of would timing cause this much trouble if it was severly advanced. 50% say yes, 50% say no.

I did a little figuring with Piers timing chart and 20* is only 6. 4mm lift, and 25* is only 7. 4mm lift. Are you supposed to divde the amount of lift you get on the dial indicator?

Maybe someone can help me put an end to this huge puzzle. :confused: :{

Mark,

It seems like you have been struggling with this for a couple months now. Why not properly check the timing and be done with it :confused:

Cooker I have been struggling with this for quite some time... .....

Sorry I forgot to include... "I have NO-ONE near me who can do timing" :{ #@$%!

The soonest I can get it done is 3 weeks, and that will require a trip out of state. :rolleyes: :(
