After doing a search on the subject, I still have a question inre a 2001 early edition driver's side heater. Is there any way short of totally dismantleing the seat to access the elements to repair same.

Also, does anyone know of an after market replacement using the existing wiring etc. ? According to my local dealer, these elements have been discontuinued. It is the sewn in version on the early prod models.

tks,

dg

Do a search on HeatedSeatKits.com - The Future is Warm these heaters are German made for most if not all autos and trucks. You can buy one seat or both, cushion and back. And they will intergrade with other wiring harnesses.

Or call 1800-975-1764 mine was shipped out of Blaine Wa. and went aroundabout to the east coast for some reason and then back to Ut.

And yes you will have to Disasemble the seat. If your good maybe not

Some time back I remember someone on here had the same problem and used the seat heater kit from GENO'S in place of the factory units. If I remember right, they made them work off of the switch in the truck instead of the switch that came with the kit. I'm sure GENO'S could give you the information you need.

The seat heater can be fixed if u want to spend the time to pull it apart. I have repaired mine 2 times in 6 years both in the same spot.

Turbos,

Does the seat bottom detach from the foam via the "velcro stuff" on the sides? or, does it have to be shaved from the foam pad? Not sure myself

tks dg

The problem is more than likely the bottom seat. There is 4 bolts holding the seat down remove them and unhook the 2 electrical connectors. The leather skin is held down with 5 plastic type hooks they are a pain to remove but they will not break (You are wanting to fold the leather back). The problem is where the main power is hooked to the tiny white wire elements. Follow the power wires into the seat you will see were they are bundled together (you may have to remove some foam to see it) You will see 5 or 6 solder points inspect each one to find your problem and resolder. I used hot glue to reattach the wires to the foam to help with it pulling and flexing so much but will not totally stop it. I tested mine before I folded the leather back and reinstalling to make sure that it worked. If you need any more info on removing just let me know.

The seat cover is attached to the seat by plastic C channel that snaps on the metal frame of the seat. You do have to compress the seat some to get enough slack to remove the cover.

You guys are fantastic! Although the heated seat worked intermittently it was the broken down foam that was a pain in the arse to me (after 700,000 miles on that seat is it any wonder why?!). Took a little over an hour to do the whole thing. I had to remove the seat bottom, cut a piece of solid but flexible material to go between the foam seat cushion and the wire grid below in order to keep the foam from pushing through the grid. Then I added a piece of 1 inch foam to the place where my cheeks sit and I am good to go! Well worth the price of admission to the TDR!!!!

Godspeed,
Trent
