Need Help!

Oil Level Gauge: is it possible?

Went to a wrench day and found a good combo for my truck. It's the same combo DHatfield is running as far as size of box/turbo/injectors.

He is running an 01 HO with 6 speed, Edge Drag, KSB-1, DD Supermentals and a SBC Con OFE.

Now, I only have a box. How big of a turbo upgrade could I do with stock injectors, or how big of injectors could I do without turbo upgrade. Or are they hand in hand, turbo AND injectors. I think I will just skip the hybrid 40/35 combo since it is not doing too well at 6000 feet (firsthand experience from other member).

What would my FMS and a turbo do to my truck, just make it a dog since the fuel is there but not being atomized like it should? I know, I should just get a huge turbo and huge injectors all at once but I can't!

Nick

With your Comp, you should be able to spool even a decent sized charger. A KSB-1 should spool about like an HX40.

I wouldn't run supermentals in our altitude-- they're just too sloppy. If you want to go that big, EDMs are the way to go in our altitude. Mach 3s are the same HP as the SMs, but MUCH cleaner.

A KSB-1 should be enough to cool a 125 hp injector and box, but the altitude might mean having to run lower box settings.

Yeah, on DHatfields truck I drove it with just the injectors. Then when warm we turned the box on and FREIGHT TRAIN! Smoked pretty good!

So you are saying I could run a KSB-1 with just my box for now, then add some EDMs later?

Thanks

That was in regards to me asking if I could run a B1 sized turbo with only my box?

Yes that was in regards to the above question. I have a KSB1B and cant say enough about it. Clears smoke, spools fast and cools fast. I dont have to wait to shut it down even after a long highway trip. If you see the picture floating around comparing the B1 to a HX-40 you will see there is really no comparrison. Do it right, do it once. But do a search don't take my word for it. (though it would save you alot of time ;) )

My friend has PDR 40/16 stock injectors and drives almost all of the time on 1-4 on the comp at 5000ft. I drove with that turbo with stock fuel and 91% DTT transmission, it was a little sluggish. So I wouldnt worry about spooling the turbo.

I would go with a set of Don M edm injectors they are great power and low smoke. At the RMTDR dyno day a set of Don M mach 2. 5 made 115 hp.

Nick,

I beleive JR makes 40's 50's a 55, and many twin combos. I know they are modified heavily, and will take alot of abuse. I run a hybrid 55 of his and cant say enough good things about it. If you would like more info you could email or call him and i'm sure he would be glad to answer all your questions. I had a small oil line problem with mine right before a dyno, and he fixed it for free in the parking lot of the hotel the night before the dyno for free. What more could a person ask for. JR is a top notch professional in my book. -Dave

Oh, do you mean JR Adkins? I think that's his name!

I run DDIII's and a drag DDUFM with the stock charger (soon to change) along with the other stuff in my sig. With the DDUFM on KILL, its a race between the tach and the pyro, and the tach always wins. I cant shift it fast enough. (I run out of rpm before I run out of pyro gauge). 99% of the time I run with the box off. The III's are that strong with the stock charger and the box off, that I dont need the box on. If you plan on running with a good set of injectors and the box on 3 or 4 all the time, you had better look at a BIG charger to burn all that fuel.

Yeah I was thinking EDMs actually. Probably 2 or 2. 5. Also, I have a Blue Chip, not a Comp. It's adjustable from 1-63% in 1% increments, 4 levels of smoke.

How does your truck smoke on 3x5? I find the way I drive I get less smoke in this setting then any other. Our trucks are pretty much the same as far as mods go so I am curious to see what works for you.

Donnie

I will have to check 3x5 and hopefully that works by not smoking so much. I usually drive with it off, 1x1 or 5x5 depending on how I want to play. My only concern is on 5x5 I am sure I will get a ticket from the smog police out here.

LOL I hear ya on the smog police. If I drive it the same way I get more smoke on 1x1 then I do with it on 3x5. Only thing I can figure is it builds boost a little quicker but the isnt enough fuel yet to start shooting out chunks of coal like on 5x5'
