Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) hard starting

After living with a hard starting (when hot) truck which was getting worse I replaced the VP44 and my problems dissappeared. No codes but after engine was run awhile and then shut down it would take 2-5 times turning over appx. 10 seconds before it would fire. Sometimes it would not fire at all until the engine cooled down. It appears the fuel was being vaporized sitting in the pump after shutdown and heat soaked into the pump. I believe the fuel was leaking past the plungers and with no fuel there to compress the engine would not start. New pump cured this. I had good lift pump pressure (FASS system) so I know this was not the problem.

Hmm I was just about to start a post similar to this, well kinda I just installed the FASS yesterday and before I had it my truck fired up within a second every time, nomatter the conditions. Now if it sits more than an hour I have to crank it for a few seconds. ... . ? Im not going to like doing that when it used to fire right up.

This is exactly the same symptom I had after connecting the "Comp" 'wire'. I replaced the VP44 and it also cured the problem of hard starting when hot. I still have my old VP44 even after 40K on the new one. I'm afraid to hook up the 'wire' and also afraid to send in the old VP44 because it worked when cold in case this one craps out. If I return my old pump I only get $250. 00 so it's worth keeping, don't you think?
