I took my truck to the dealer today because of the check engine light. It had a 1693 code showing on the odometer. The service manager just called me and said the VP44 needs to be replaced and theres a nation wide back order of 132 VP44's. He said 1 to 2 weeks for the replacement to get here. They did replace the lift pump about 3000 miles ago under warranty and even though I caught it early because of the fuel pressure gauge I guess it still damaged the injection pump. At least its still driveable and hopefully won't leave me stranded someplace. Sounds like it's time for a pusher pump to be installed but that creates another issue itself by tampering with the fuel system.

Yes he did say there was another code but didn't tell me which one.

Just took my 2002 HO CTD into the dealer. This will be the 3rd (incl the original) injection pump in 64,000 miles. I have installed fuel pressure guage (after they replaced LP) which still reads above 9psi even at WOT. Otherwise normally around 12 to 15 psi. Truck is totally Stock.

Warrenty is apparently taking care of this problem but am worried about what happens after 100K? It's hard to get an answer from Dodge as to EXACTLY what caused the previous 2 Failures other than the bad LP the first time around. One can only hope that the manufacturer's involved are making the necessary changes to the fuel delivery system to insure the relability of the Cummins Engine. The latter the main reason I chose to purchase a Dodge in the first place.

Thanks for letting me vent.
