My first question would be. Can the water in fuel sensor in the fuel filter go bad? Because I just changed my filter and connected every thing back up and the light stays on "Water in Fuel". So, I took the filter back off, and took the sensor out of the filter and connected it to the truck. Then I turned the key on and the light still stays on. I disconnected the sensor with the key still in the on position and the light stays on. Then I tried disconnecting the sensor first and then turned the key on and the light stays off. Then I connected the sensor with the key still in the on position and the light still stays off.

Please tell me that I can buy a new sensor and fix this!!! :(

Sorry for any confusion, if any one has any suggestions they could offer I would greatly appreciate it.

Confused? Me, too.

I think I got a little fuel in the connector to the WIF sensor when I changed it last time. I got all sorts of goofy indications, including having the light come on going downhill but going back off going uphill.

I blasted the connector with WD-40 and let both ends hang down for a couple of days. The WIF light went out and stayed out when I connected everything.

If you want to test things, shorting the two contacts on the sensor gives you the WIF indication; leaving them open should result in the light being off.

I always try to keep a can of electrical contact cleaner handy for things just like this.

Try using some on the contacts since it is designed for this sort of thing and is less likely to "attack" certain materials.

Also, if you want to have a slightly more 'complete kit' get some dielectric grease to keep with it.

Like PB said, contact cleaner or spray carb cleaner then blow the sensor dry before installing. Try not to touch the contacts with your hands or rags after cleaning as it will cause a false positive on the lights.

Hey PB, 12:08 AM posting???? Mama kick you out of bed? :D :D
