anoying sound

My 97 has an slight buzz sound at about 2k rmp. Would more describe it as a very fast ticking sound. If I give it more go juice it will seems to go away, likewise if I letoff the go juice it stops. Any idea to what might be causing this. My dads 96 doesn't do this. Sounds like its coming directly behind the instrument panel.

My '95 made much the same sound. After much searching I traced it to the aluminum VIN tag on the dash close to the windshield. I just jammed a piece of matchbook cover under it, no more tick! Worth checking out.
