I’ve been wanting to replace the aftermarket antenna that came with my truck. I tried removing it some time back but it felt frozen in place. Finally decide it was time to replace so using a pair of pliers, I removed/broke off the old antenna. The rubber post came off leaving exposed a brass sleeve. Using some WD40 I was able to get the brass sleeve off leaving exposed a threaded stud. I thought this is what a new antenna would screw on to. Looking at some online pictures of antennas, it seems they come with a threaded stud. Before I take some pliers and strip the stud, I wanted to check with those that have replaced their antenna if the male stud is part of the new antenna or if the included stud can be removed from the new antenna. I haven’t ordered a replacement antenna yet.

Gen2/3 was opposite, it looked like yours. Get a Mast from that Generation and put it on.

But with a second view.... I recommend to replace the whole assembly so rusty and crusty that thing is. That sure doesn't help to get a decent reception.

Watched a few more YouTube videos last night and it looks to be a mix both scenarios. Looking at more antenna options some come with a mix of connector screws (threaded on both ends) I’m staring to think the stud in the mast is technically removable but usually come off with the mast. The stud looks to have corrosion which is probably why it’s frozen. Good thing is the radio is still working.

Replacement antenna come with a variety of studs. I worked on trying to get the old stud out with DW40 but looks like dissimilar metal corrosion got the best of the stud. The exiting stud is a brass or copper alloy. I didn't want to shear the stud so left it and screwed on my new antenna. Radio seems to work well.
