I'm still scratching my head,

The truck overheated.

I R & R the stat, cap & water pump.

The rad. just pushes the a/f out & won't suck it back.

The pressure test guage at idle went up slowly.

It went up very slow at 1,000 RPM.

Should I call sherlock holmes about this ?#@$%!

Thanks,

Wayne

Head Gasket???:{ Water/Meth has been known to "pop" them. I see that you have studs, So it's only a guess on my part. Moose

If you had no problem before changing the stat, I would suggest that you take it back apart and check to see if you had installed it up side down by accident.

Hoefler,

That thought ran thru my mind late last night. #@$%!

I didn't think you could put it in bass ackwards. :p

Thank You,

Wayne

Moose00,

I wasn't using the water/meth at any time.

This all started when it overheated. That is why I R & R everything as a preventive maintenance solution. :)

Thank You,

Wayne

Did you have the engine running when filling the radiator? If not, start the engine and try putting coolant in again (50/50 mix anti freeze and distilled water).

Missouri Mule,

i found out the thermostat was defective. #@$%!

I still think they gave me the wrong one as far as temperature is concerned.

Do you know how I can find the right one? According to Cummins , its correct. Although it works from 150 to 180. I think it should be higher.

Thank You,

Wayne

Wayne, the thermostat should be a 180 degree one. Should start to open at 181 degrees F. This as per 96 service manual.

I don'd seeing that a upgraded one would open before then.

Missouri Mule,

See, that is what I'm saying.

It should start to open & be fully open at what temp?

Did you have a part number I can use to reference that stat?

Thanks,

Wayne

Missouri Mule,

I keep telling them that they have something sour with the stats. #@$%!

They have checked the part #'s & insist it is correct.

On that note at least the overflow issue is cured.

Have a great day,

I'm still digging into this------
