I have changed a few egr coolers recently on ISL motors, one filled a couple of cylinders with coolant, they had no doc or dpf issues afterwards.

I just swung a ford 6.0 that was pumping coolant out the pipe. It has a retrofit DOC that saw the coolant. So far, so good. And I agree that you'll find out quick if there was damage.

How far did you go while it was leaking??? Immediate failure or did you add some coolant on occasion and keep going until it got really bad???

Mike.

I took it to the dealer for an overheating problem they added 3 gallons and said that all that they could find and couldn't find any leaking. a month later and approx. 800 miles it happened again

The Egris usually an internal cooler tube that has cracked . If have to add coolant on a regular basis you can usually bet it is going out the exhaust. I can'tbelieve a dealer dumps 3 gal. Of coolantinto a system and can't figure out it is the EGR. Really pathetic.

I would make that dealer run a regen with gauges hookeed up to insure that your dpf was not degraded. They are very expensive to replace.
