I have had my 01 for 5 months now and have had the antifreeze topped off 2 times and is low again. I have looked for leaks and are none. I have told the Dealer adout a tick- knock sound and all they say is its a diesel and makes that sound. Do I have an internal leak. And is the ticking a problem not related or is related. This is B. S. to have to ad antifreeze every 2 to 3 weeks. I dont use alot and only have about 4500 miles on and has been no hard driving at all. Can anyone help as to whats going on. I sure dont want to blow up the engine. I hate the idea that the engine has a, Internal antifreeze leak and or is eating antifreeze. That isnt a good thing on it and I thought I heard someone say antifreeze trashes the inside combustion parts. Help!

How much did you add, I had to add to mine after it was a couple of mos. old about a half gal. but not since. Check to see if your oil level is riseing.

I also had to add antifreeze after about only 3 mo and 7000 miles. I added about a quart or so. I dont have any in the oil though. Dont know where it goes but I think this is pretty common.

Check the oil

It might be worth the $20 and peace of mind to have your oil analyzed for water/anti-freeze content.

Napa sells a little head checker kit. It is a liquid that change from blue to green to yellow when exuast is present. it has a little sniffer bulb and glass holder and you suck the vapors from your radiator when the vehicles warm and running. It will pick up the smallest of head gasket leaks. Hope this helps.

I don't know how to put the list of things on the bottom of the post but I have an 01 quad cab 4x4 with a stick. Also have the PE Comp, straight pipe and big Napa filter. Any help on how to do the list would be great.

If you just recently used the heater on your new rig some of the coolant may have displaced a little trapped air in the heater plumbing. Soon after the first cold snap here I noticed that the coolant was about 1\2" to 3\4" lower than it had been. I've been watching it since then and it hasn't moved any more so I think that there must have been a little air in the heater system.

I do the oil analysis thing and didn't have any antifreeze in the oil.

Mike, I think your right, I've been thinking about this over the weekend and came to the same conclusion at least on my rig. it was after I started useing the heater when I noticed mine low, hope thats all it is with TBarrett truck allso.
