Have a question, Read the FAQ about antifreeze on TDR site and cummins site. What brand of antifreeze can someone recommend should I use Mopar? I know it needs to be mixed 50/50.

What Frank just said: I just changed mine last weekend for the first time. I went to Cummins West in Sacramento and bought the Fleetguard Compleat which is the 50/50 pre-mixed that also contains DCA additives.

My vote is for John Deere Cool Guard 50/50.

It's almost 1/2 the cost of the Fleetguard and just as good, or better.

I use Prestone. The CPL of our Dodge application 5. 9 includes seals and gaskets compatable with easy to obtain antifreeze. No harm in using the big rig stuff but not necessary.

I am still wanting to try the Evans "waterless" coolant. I have posted before about it and nobody replies... . Surely somebody has seen/heard/used or knows somebody else that knows something about it... ??? If you have not seen anything on Evans Coolant check it out! Looks like way cool stuff! Evans "waterless" Coolant

EOliver ~ have not used Evans but does sound interesting. If you use it let us know how it goes. Do you know if it cost big $$'s? I wonder if you say need to change water pump; you drain and catch it then filter and put back in?

Prestone phosphate-free. As long as the antifreeze you use is phosphate-free, and clearly marked safe for aluminum radiators, it is perfectly acceptable in our rigs.

Bob,

Evans looks like it is $20 to $22 a gallon. Expensive, yes, but good for 500,000 miles... It would most likely be the last Coolant change I would have to do in my truck. The new stuff they have out will work fine with the stock pump. I think you are correct on the Drain / filter / refill method to clean the system once Evans is in there.

Evans

Several of us PSD guys have switched to Evans already. There are many advantages. First off, last time you ever touch it. 0 pressure system, which means no pressure to hoses, seals, radiator, etc. No localised boiling due to hot spots in the engine. The boiling point is about 130 degrees hotter than 50/50 EG/water, and freeze point is about 30 degrees colder. Sure it's expensive, by the time you get it, it costs abouyt 200. 00 with shipping and all, but you are done forever and hoses will last longer, water pumps will last longer, engine wear can be reduced from piston skirt dragging(where most of the localised boiling occures).
