I recall a thread around here once apon a time, where people mentioned that instead of doing complete flushes every few years, they do partial changes every year. Then there were a few that dont change the coolant except maybe every 5 years, just keep adding some kind of "additive" that recharges the antifreeze.



I am curious about the latter. What kind of additive is this, where can you get it, etc. Interest in more info about the second case.

I think what you are referring to are called Supplemental Coolant Additives and the most popular in our neck of the woods is

Fleet Guard SCA which is marketed as DCA-2 & 4 and they also have a ES Extender Chemical Replenishment product. To use these properly you will also need the test kit to check the level of additives.



For me it's easier to change out most of the antifreeze every 3rd year.



Also the Ford guys mention an additive called FW-16 which may or may not be a re-named SCA for a PowerStroke.
