was that a member in vegas?

Any one race one yet and if so, how did you do? Thought I had one that wanted to play the other day. As I pulled away at a stop light in Lodi, had one turn right in front of me and get into it. I pushed a little and stayed with him to the next light. Pulled up on his left, was expecting him to probably blow my doors off when the light changed, but he turned right instead.

I don't know if my old first gen could keep up but would be fun to see!:D Drove one with Cummnzpwr once and we felt we could probably stay with it. (At least for the first 1/8 mile or so)

Oh well, one of these days maybe we'll see.

Draggin a Duramax !!!

I sorta had a friendly drag with a duramax last week. He pulled up beside me and i rolled my window down and chatted with him about how he liked it. Of course, he did and he added that he had a first gen before and said it was the last of the real trucks - the newer ones, he claimed were junk.
Anyways we took off at the light - it was in town so I don't think either one of us was into a serious launch - and he was faster by about a length. Then we got lucky and were in front and side-by-side again at the next light. I asked him what he was getting for MPG and he said 20 as the light changed. So I floored it and caught him by surprise but pretty soon he passed me.
DISCLAIMER: I never really floored it out of respect for the cars behind me and I have an automatic - although I do have a Banks blower and the pump is turned up a bit.

So that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!

I'd be more interested in a race up a hill while pulling equally heavy trailers. :) That's a more meaningful test to me, for a truck.

I am curious of the capability of the Dmax, but they will never match the tough features of the first gen 4WD's, like the Dana 60 solid front axle and the NP205 transfer case.

300 Hp. I went and test drove one and I can tell you that they are ipmressive. My old truck was a 91. 5 intercooled with the pump turned up and a 16cm turbo housing and there wasn't a chance that I would even have a chance against that thing. My new one would definetly tear one up though.

Like I said, I figured he would blow my doors off:) But I still think I could stay with one for the first few hundred feet. I agree about the trailer towing comparison also. There I think the Cummins would have a good chance based on what we hear. Time will tell!

I can tell you that they are gutless at Interstate speeds.

Today we were coming back from Grandfather Mountain and had just got on I-40. I was running with a pack of cars doing 80 in a 70 speed limit. I was in the left lane and a Burgandy Dmax dually pulls up beside me behind the pack running in the right lane. Everyone is riding real close but I left about 3 truck lengths between me and the car in front of me. The car that was in front of the Dmax turned off and would you believe this guy nailed it to try and get the spot that was in front of me. His dually fender was right beside the front of my truck. I tickled the throttle and closed the door on him and actually got to the spot before he did. I looked over at him and he kinda mouthed something, so I let him know he was still #1 in my book. He got behind me for a second, so I put the HotPE in Level 3 and farted all over his brand new truck.

..still number one

Wowzy, good one! I'm still waiting for the

opportunity to show a Duralax owner what a

Cummins can do. I've had a couple of chances

but because of other cars getting in the way

or traffic light timing I missed out. The best

one was on a three lane (six lanes, three each

direction) at a light. . I was in the left lane,

a PSD in the right lane and a new Duramax in

the middle lane. I was ahead of them by about

three truck lengths when the light turned yellow

just as I hit the intersection. . of course they

stopped for the light, I didn't stop in time.

That would have been the PERFECT stoplight race!

BTW I have some slight bombing mods, not stock...

DMAX 1st Impressions

Saturday, with my buddies pursuation, we stopped by the local Chevy dealer. I drove a red 4x4 extended cab dually with a 6sp. Very Quiet, and very, very smooth on bumps that would send you flying right out of the window in my truck!:p However, the 6sp gates are soo much closer than my Getrag, and since my injector swap, my truck seemed like a rocket ship compared to it. When I put the pedal down, I was wondering when the boost was finally going to kick in:rolleyes: I guess that I'm justed used to my slightly BOMBED Cummins:D And this guy (salesman) wanted to send me home with it. Just imagine that me buying a brand C truck with an Isuzu motor. I will say this though, everytime I ride in my buddies Z71, I wish that I had those wonderful lumbar adjustable seats!

Great story Wowzy

I test drove a QC 3/4T GMC DuraMax Allison a couple months ago. It was pretty quick off the line and responsive, however I noticed when it shifted into high gear cruising down the highway, it felt pretty weak. It acted pretty much like a gasser, didn't feel overly torquey. As far as ride quality it was nice, but too soft in my book. I don't like soft mushy vehicles. This one was not very good in the corners, my truck definitely handles better.

As far as the engine sound, sure it was quiet, but the truck did not seem to have as much sound insulation as our trucks. The tinny, shallow, cheap sounding combustion noise could get very annoying after awhile. It was not very loud or pronounced, but very noticeable. My Cummins TD just purrs down the interstate :)

It's a waste of my time to race a dura-luminum... . if it can beat a 16. 00 second 1/4 mile, I DON'T THINK SO!... . i have blasted the "cloud-of-doom" on a few though... owners were pretty upset:mad:

I don't know anything about the new Chevs but at the Buck diesel pulls a bone stock one almost did a full pull until hitch snapped a cummins did win but it was modified. My first gen pulls great but nothing compared to a newer truck. But I love it anyway. :D

Ran into a 2000 Power smoke and a Duromax the other day ,pulling over Doner sumit on I-80 out of Reno to Sac.

My trailer is a 34' and 12200lb, they both had a little smaller ,may be 30 or 32. They got me comming of the check station by about 300' . After my bust came up to 32lb, things changed fast. Inside of 1/2 mile I got the ford and another 1/2 mile I had the Chuby and a smile that will not ever go way. No way can the v8 stand with a 6 for brut pulling power under a large lood. I know they will get me off the line emty. The V8 will excelerat like a cat.

We have two of them at work and the go like ell but not with a larg lood. You do not see many V8s in class 8 trucks and ther is a good reasen. Keep it 6 and smoken.

Harlen, I bet your still smilin!:D Also bet the cheby guy wasn't:mad:

What is your pyro temps on a hard pull like that?

What's the pump timing? Mines at 1. 7 but I still have the stock turbo and only have about 25# boost.

Harlen proves what I have been stating for some time - the V8's display great accelleration off the line empty - and most stock Cummins won't stay with them in "stoplite wars" - but 12,000 lbs and a 7% grade is a GREAT equalizer!

As time goes by, the few smiles currently on the faces of new DM owners will fade as harsh reality is thrust in their faces - just as it has with the Ford PS owners... ;) :p

By having the hot end of the turbo opend up, the exost gets to the 4" srate pipe and out with out any swerle or back pressure.

Pyro sits at 1150 to 1200 all day if there is a little humidity in the air. If it is dry then it will go up. Dont know how fare for I drive by the gages and just lift. To many $$$ to take a chance.

I am runing 308 gears and big tires so do not get of to good. But once into therd gear I can pull 55mpr, and in forth about 80 but the second seat gets a little up tight when she sees cars going backwords when the trailer is behind. Something about how far it wood take to stop at this speed. Pump is set at 1. 65 and opend to pull hard to 3000rpms. only use this to shift with the trailer or smoth out the hills if there is some compition around. Only thing I have run into that got me is my boys 96 3/4 dodge and I opend my mouth and told him how to do it.

Keep it 6 and smoken. :D :D

Keep it a 6 and Smokin

:D I had Dmax pull up next to me about 2 weeks ago. we were moving at about 30 when he looked at me and then mashed it, I cought third and witha puff of smoke I left him behind. when I slowed back down to speed he passed me and just glared at me. Soooooo much fun. gotta love that 6.
