I just purchased a 06' QC dually 2-wheel drive with 5,600 miles, I've owned every year of CTD's through 06' now except for 05'. This may be my last truck ever purchased.

The last 2-wheel drive I owned was a 1993. Since moving to Texas I think I'll be fine with a 2-wheel drive and I just couldn't pass up the deal on this truck.

I'm so used to all of the 4X4 steering issues on all the years that's another reason for going with a 2-wheel drive, is they are less expensive to maintain

is there anything or any type of preventative things (dss steering stabilizer, dampers, etc. etc. ) I should do with a 2-wheel drive dually or just drive it?

thanks for any thoughts and input

I put 209,000 miles on my ’98. 5 2WD, had to replace the upper/lower ball joints with zerk lubrication joints at about 80,000 miles.

Now I only have 50,000 miles on my ’05 2WD. So far so good

Thanks Richard, I believe I'll just run it like it came from the factory

I'm really looking forward to not having all the 4X4 issues

Not all of us 4X4 guys are having problems. My 05 is near 90K with all original front end parts and universals. No problems all spec fine. Tires wear well. Original injectors and lift pump. No problems. Only thing I have had to replace was the #4 injector line as it broke but the new one has a better mount. This 05 has been the best truck I have ever owned. Good luck and enjoy your new rig it will give you many happy miles with routine maint.

I just turned over 200k on my 03 2wd Dually. The only thing I replaced was one set of tie rod ends. It was cheap and I did it myself in an hour. Original ball joints are still going strong. I live in the Northeast and have no issues in the winter either. Good luck!

I am at 532,000Kms (320,000K) Never had any steering problems ,original tie rod ends, upper ball joints replaced at 225,000K lowers are original. 2 wheel alignments one because of ball joint install. no tire wear problems, vibration ,death wobble etc. I would not trade my 2wd . for 4x4 unless there was no other way to get the job done. 2wd is so much simpler that 4x4 .

Thanks for all the replies guys, I am really excited about the truck, I drive alot of miles for business but not as many as I used to

it just rides smoother and does seems simplier, in my younger years in Kansas no blizzard could stop me and my CTD, now at 57 I worry about the other guy and if the weather is bad I'll just stay home or in the motel room

I have to go to west Texas and southern Okla. and they get some snow and ice but not where I live

Edgemann, my 04' 4x4 was trouble free but I seemed to fight most of the 2nd gens I owned, the wandering drove me crazy, I think they made massive improvements is the steering on the 3rd gens

thanks again everyone
