... I have been repeatedly noticing something very strange the past 1. 5 weeks in that my truck will act as if the key is shut off momentarily and start "coasting". This has only happened under these conditions that I have noticed:

1) light throttle pressure

2) cruise control off or disengaged

3) Juice settings 1-5 only. Setting 0 ("stock") or removing the Juice from the truck is otherwise OK.

4) Between 75-80 mph then truck will "coast" to about 70 mph or ~+/- 2100 rpms and then it will just take off again like nothing has happened. I can mat the throttle with no response - it is just momentarily dead.

5) seems to happen more under low boost and constant throttle conditions, but has also happened when I was towing last week too, especially when transitioning from level ground to a slight incline when more throttle is required.

I can avoid this from happening if I power through the rpm, but if I am just cruising down the interstate at steady boost and then give a slight, very light throttle then the truck will seem to do this.

Fuel pressure to the CP3 is good at 12-13 psi and otherwise under low rail pressure conditions. No codes either when this happens. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to install my SPA rail pressure gauge yet so I don't know what the rail pressure is doing when this happens.

I'm aware that the juice does fuel pressure to about 2100 rpms so I am wondering if perhaps what I am seeing is switching to a different "fueling map"?

I thought that I could live with this, but I almost got rear ended this afternoon on I80 coming back from Reno! I was passing someone and pulled back in the slow lane when I was in the clear, but the truck had no throttle response and slowed down! Then just as I was ready to get back in the other lane to let the car I just passed pass me on the inside, my truck just took off again as if nothing happened. I looked quickly in the rear view and noticed the seniors I just passed have the death grip on the steering wheel from almost driving into me!

I am also thinking that I had this problem for a while, but a lot of my driving is interstate with cruise control. It was only until road construction and towing started, i. e. , don't use cruise, that this has started happening.

I emailed Edge and got an immediate response with no BS so I will send the Juice in tomorrow morning for analysis as this is the first they heard of this problem on the 305/555 Juice and they will replace it with a new one. It will actually be perfect timing since I'll be in Chile next week visiting one of our mines so it is not like I'll be without my BOMBaholicism. :-laf Really looking forward also to (hopefully) driving those 1-ton diesel Landcruisers that are not sold here!

Other than this I have only generated one code and CEL when I romp on it on Level 4 or 5 - P0193 "Rail pressure voltage high", which hasn't affected driveability at all (RankRam can verify! :-laf ). I am thinking that perhaps this code is sprung due to the CP3 working "harder" with the bigger injectors. However, this is just a theory until I hook up the rail pressure gauge and prove it otherwise.

I've got the Juice with Attitude and I have not experienced what you describe. Edge should fix you right up. Keep us posted.

I have had similar pedal feelings in different scenarios. There was times, when my truck would be idling, I'd hit the pedal and nothing at all would happen, just keep on idling. The problem here was my fuel actuator valve was sticking and not letting any additional fuel into the pump, so it just stayed at idle.

I don't know if this could be happening at higher RPM's like you have stated or not, but its something to look at.

Lonestar-

They are shipping a new box to me! It only happens with it on Levels 1 through 5; doesn't happen if I remove it or run on "0".

BTW how is your new engine? Did you get all the bugs worked out? I was reading some of your posts on the BD-Power site.

Also, how did you check the FCA? Pull it off the CP3 and shake it to see if it rattled or not per the service manual?

I read somewhere that the FCA is now a Mopar part, but not Cummins... if so, do you have the part number and price by any chance for future reference.

-Thanks-

I do almost have all the bugs worked out, and man this thing runs good. I am getting rid of these injectors in favor of the flux injectors. These are great and provide tons of power, but they are too smokey for me. Other than that I think I'm going to swap out my pressure relief valve due to some fueling issues and I should be good to go.

When my actuator went out, I actually took the truck to my local dealership to fix. I was out of time to diagnose problems, and had some computer stuff to straighten out. Fortunately my mech. had just replaced an FCA on a truck the day before so he knew what it was almost immediately after I gave him the symptoms. I do know the actuator was about $160 retail, but don't have the part # right off hand.

Hopefully this new box will straighten you out.
