I had enough trouble with emissions on my 6. 7 so am considering a 5. 9 automatic truck with 3. 73's.

I recorded every drop of fuel I put through my 6. 7 since new - it used 1574. 37 gallons in 25,634 miles which is 16. 28 mpg. These are unloaded miles most of it highway cruising 60-65 mph, 60 miles per day to and from work. I've seen overhead readings above 22 and some long trips were hand calculated over 19 mpg, but it's the long haul that I want to improve on.

Have any 5. 9 owners logged their fuel consumption like this? Just trying to understand the real economy numbers over the long haul.

Hi,

I've been keeping a log of my fuel usage on my 05, guess I should fill you in on my rig, it's a 2005 quad cab 4x4with the 6 speed manual and the 3. 73 gears. I have installed the dynatraxx free wheeling hubs and I up sized the tires to 315-70-17 at 60 miles per hour I turn 1650 rpm. If I shift at 1900 rpm and keep my speed around 58-62 mph I average 19. 5 -24. 5 mpg this has ben the same for the past 40,000 miles light load. with a boat trailer and boat (about 6,000 lbs) I average 15. 5-17. 0 mpg. I watch my exaust temp and do my best to keep th boost and exaust temp as low as possable 6 to 8 psi boost 500-800 on the exaust. This is real calculated mpg not the overhead display. The display is all over the place and has read as high as 35 mpg! One last thought he bst Mpg I have ever logged was on a mixture of 50/50 Biodiesel/ Diesel

I don't keep a log, but I get a very consistent close to 21MPG in summer and around 18. 5 in winter at 1950 RPM which for me is around 66-67mph. 66 miles round trip each day for work. I can easily go 600 miles on a single tank on a road trip. Mine is a manual trans though.

Anyone want to trade me for a 6. 7 auto truck?;)

Just returned from a 18,000 mile trip from the Florida Keys to Alaska and return. '07 5. 9L, 3. 73, dynatrak hubs, toyo A/T 285/75-17 @ 70psi. Caravan shell with 3/4 inch ply platform and Yakima storage box on top. Truck loaded with 3 trailer spares, two full "jerry" cans of diesel, 50lb generater + fuel, tools and toys. Towing a 3200 pound, 17 foot Casita trailer . averaged 16 1/2 mpg by pencil at a average speed of 60mph. With just the truck empty I'll get over 22mpg highway with a light foot and 55mph.

Not too bad I think.

Regards, Richard

My most accurate log was from KeyWest to SF CA. towing a u-haul trailer. 16. 12mpg for that trip. Lately the last few tanks have been between 16-18mpg for the whole tank with average speeds between 28-30, daily driving around the bay area. I attribute the low mpg to slow average speed and running around with 35" MTs. I just chopped out the muffler and am running a tank full with the Stanadyne Performance and also will be putting the small 265 street tires back on.

I have a fuel log since day one for my '07. I'll get it out of my truck tomorrow after I buy fuel and post up the #'s.

2005 quad 4x4 auto 3. 73 locking hubs w/cab height cap (shell, topper whatever you want to call it) smarty when I can tolerate the smoke stock when I can't

As a rough guesstimate: 65% highway, 25% towing something, 25% loaded.

70,056 miles 4,361. 8 gallons = 16. 06 mpg

Best: 20 mpg (empty, 65-70 mph all highway, no cap, smarty), worst: 12. 8 mpg (towing)

Looks like your numbers are at least as good or better (than my 5. 9 anyway). Are you planning on buying new or used? If used, you may want to look at an 03-04 since they have less emissions than the 04. 5 & up and get better mpg.

I too have logged every drop. At 77536 miles my lifetime average is 19. 1 mpg (as it says in my signature).

I've logged every fill-up...

Avg = 13. 8 mpg with approx 2/3 of the miles either with the slide-in camper and boat or with the 5er.

Best was 18. 6 mpg (daily driving to work; 18 mile commute each way, 35 mph avg speed w/traffic)

Worst was 9. 8 mpg (towing to Kahneeta RV Resort; before bombing the truck. After bombing, the towing mileage has increased by 1 to 1. 5 mpg)

Mine is a '07 Quad Cab short bed 4x4 with the early G56 and 3. 73 gears. The daily commute for this truck is all side roads to and from work. Most of the highway miles that it has seen have been on 2 trips from PA to Florida, and several trips from here to NY. I also have been using it as my farm truck lately so it spends at least a few days a week off road, towing, etc.

Total Miles to date: 22426

Fuel Used: 1281. 806

Average MPG: 17. 495

Best: 22. 36

Worst: 14. 35

I have been keeping track for 12,000 miles, 7,000 have been towing. My average is 12. 46 with a best of 23. 4 empty and worst of 9. 9 pulling 20K through the mountains with a head wind and a bad injector.

2003 QC, SB, 4X4, 48RE:

Avg: 16. 2

Best: 19. 6

Worst: 13. 6

Note: Avg has dropped about 1 MPG since ULSD.

The 2003 is my wife's who is a little lead footed. I am a lot lead footed, so I always get the lower end of mileage. I've tried driving easy, but that is no fun and defeats the purpose of the power upgrades.

Considering the out of the box power of the 6. 7s, I wouldn't be unhappy w/ your mileage. But, to each his own.

I have an Excel file of fuel used a week after I bought the truck. It will calculate MPG and $/mile etc. Give me you email address and I'll send it to you.

My numbers are 190,751 miles with 9539. 4 galons for an overall average of 19. 9mpg. Mostly highway/commute miles. My truck has 3. 73 ratio, and I have used the stock Michelins except for the winter/snowy season. I have a Banks Ottomind6 and Smarty Jr, both of which helped mpg. Best: 27. 8mpg, worst: 15. 5mpg.

I have a log from the day I bought my truck.

Oddly enough, the more mods I do to the truck, the better the mileage.

Currently with the Smarty on Level 7 and the 120HP F-1 injectors, my last tank got 18. 2 mpg with mostly city driving.

Here is what I have... . I bought the truck with 10,303 on it, so I used the avg of the last 15K to extrapolate the gallons from the first 10K.

I bought my truck with ~48K. I have tracked virtually every mile and gallon that has gone in it.

Miles: 63546. 1 Gallons: 3583. 9 Average of 17. 703 miles per gallon.

This average also includes towing my 28' trailer a few times a year. I also burn biodiesel every few tanks or so. i try to use almost all bio now, however the one place I get it is on the way to/from work and I do not always get there when it is time to fill it up. Then I put in the good old #2.
