I am finding that backing up my black truck shown in the signature is difficult at night due to inadequate rear lighting. I frequent places with no street lights such as my street, for one. Are there any rear supplemental reverse lights or brighter bulbs I can install?

Thanks,

Mark H

I purchased a set from car quest and installed one on each side of the receiver with a self made bracket, then tied into the reverse wire for trailer backup lights. A little less expensive option to the KC's. Mine worked great till I ripped one off while shooting gophers...

I put a bracket on the receiver and mounted some KC- hi lights to it. I have mine on a switch where the seat heaters switches go. I can turn them on for light anytime I want to that way. Turns out to be quite frequent with the Alaska winters.

I kind of like the White Night lights that Cattletrkr posted earlier in this tread. I am thinking hard about getting those for my truck.

I bought a pair of 50 or 55 watt holagens that replace the stock reverse lights made a big difference and I think it was about $25 from jc whitney I also have clear tail lenses and that helps too

I mounted some halogen floods up on my lumber rack. they are wired to come on with the reverse or by a switch, whick i think is illegal, but great for tailgaters.

I have left them on a few times by mistake. People let you know quickly.

ON my '02 with the same problem, I installed these:

A total of about $85 for the Ebay tail lights and Walmart under bumper backup lights got it done...

Be sure to avoid running big lights off the existing wiring. People do it, but you can fry stuff if you overload it.

Maybe somene with a lttle electrical knowledge can chime in on safe wattage with factory wiring.

ABSOLUTELY!

On mine, pictured above, I ran a separate fused heavy power lead from the battery, and use a relay triggered off the OEM backup lights to light the 55 watt under-bumper lights.

I had the same problem and got the White Knight directly from the manufacturer, THEN I find Geno's has it for less. :(

I did have to get a new ball mount with a longer shank. The White Knight takes up about a 1/2 inch to 1 inch or so from the face of the receiver and my old mount wasn't long enough for the holes to line up. What is nice is when I lock the hitch, it also locks the White Knight in place since you have to remove the hitch to remove the lights unless you want to destroy the housing.

It plugs right into my extra 4 pin trailer connector and has a sealed 3 way switch on the back of it for OFF - ON - ON WHEN IN REVERSE.

The halogen lights do a pretty good job of lighting up the driveway now.

I'm going to do something like Gary's when it warms back up. I'm going to mount a set of 55 watt lights on a 3 way switch so I can turn them on for hooking up trailers at night, as well as have them come on with reverse.

that's how mine are wired and it's pretty handy to be able to turn them on manually, or just have them come on automatically when in reverse.
