Old school here!

Are there any BOMB’ers still around the forums?

Better Off Modified Baby!!!

Over time my BOMBing has been taken away by the Government, and for diesels, that is a crying shame!

EGR and Catalytic converters have no place on a diesel!

I don’t mind DPF and DEF so much as that is all after the combustion, but please stop sending exhaust back into the intake!

That alone would solve so much!

Been looking at the AFE new blue scorcher, and someone mentioned that they make you install a shim in the pressure relief valve, but I never saw that in the instructions..

Hope to hear from some Fellow BOMBers!

BOMBing and block smoke were cuel, but it's pretty nice to get something off the showroom floor that has high HP/TQ, tows like there's no tomorrow, and gets amazing fuel mileage. I could have kept my 93, 00, 02 and 03, but I REALLY do like my tuned 17 5500. Still....

I had a 98.5 24v and took it to Janety racing in Connecticut, when I lived there.

He put on the sweetest sounding exhaust I ever heard on a diesel!

Had a van Aiken box, boost elbow and module and diesel dynamics stage 1 injectors !

Mag hytec transmission pan and rear diff cover.

Alpine stereo with dual subs and bi amped.

I’ve probably forgotten everything I did.

Now I have a 2020 3500 SRW Limited, and I agree, it came well thought out, but i‘m still a tinkerer at heart.

Have some immediate and some couple month off plans for the girl.

Just hate driving around in something that isn’t “Mine” from my touches.

So far only weather tech drill less mud flaps 10 out of 10 rating!
A weather tech tonnow cover, hard install but 10 out of 10.
And a set of SS bull-ring tie downs to fill the two holes in the bed sides near the tailgate.
Useful and looks more complete that the two holes left by the factory!
(And as a side note! RAM come on ! 85,000 dollars and you leave two HOLES in the bed rails near the tailgate?!?!?! Bad JuJu!)

Yep, I am still here. I went to one of the get together work parties out in the South end. Forget the name of the guy that hosted it. He got Lime Disease or something like that and pasted away. Went to a dyno day in Monroe at Lenny's.

Glad to know we aren’t extinct!

We don’t travel much as work takes most of our time, haven’t taken a rest travel vacation in 30 or so years.

No kids, but household chores and work is all we do.

Hopefully we retire in 5 more.

Not counting my three old trucks that are modified, the '21 is getting some attention in a small way.

Mopar HD mud flaps, Westin side steps, crossover tool box, air bags, both hitches, Garmin navigation and dash cam.

Mine is SO but not antsy at all in more power. Other than passing power with a load it seems to do really well. Miss the '01 here. Launch power is there and you will feel/hear the torque rumble in the drive train if you get too frisky with the right foot, loaded, in 1st. Once it hits 2nd then you can blow out the soot, so I do:)

Had a fairly modded 05. Suspension improvements, rebuilt motor with better pistons, cam, injectors, turbo, and custom tuning. It ran, drove, and towed awesome but as a package the stock 18 is better, so why spend money on the 18 I don’t have to? A bigger tank, OBA, and a front receiver are really all the mods it needed for my use.

The 05 did have a little more peak power but the usable rpm band of the 6.7 is a couple hundred rpms lower and that makes a decent difference in everyday towing.

I do occasionally miss the 05, after all it was very personalized, strong, and lots of fun. But often I don’t.

Who knows, with todays used truck marked the 18 may wander down the road… the 22 HO can put nearly 25% more torque to the ground than the 18 HO, nothing shabby there.

the shim in the pressure relief vale comment was referring to what was done prior to all the electronic controls and senors on today's trucks. The main issue as I noted before was needing to remove prior to taking in for any warranty work. Dealers are denying work with anything placed on the trucks that changes fuel ratio or timing. Even if this unit has a "CARB" certificate, I'd be very concerned that it's plugging into engine component senors! Have you looked into accelerator pedal lag correction device? This unit in no way affects warranty, only corrects the variable resistance lag that's on the pedal. JM2C

I'm still here, kinda. My old trucks are bombed, my old 95 12 valve is way beyond 160 Hp still.

A newer truck would be nice, but I think I'll keep running my old ones till they are completely shot. I don't worry about dents or a scratch, when the old 2003 gets muddy I just wash it off occasionally. It still runs fine, I try not to ride in new trucks though!

The modern auto transmissions are really nice though, I always hated the 4 speed autos in my trucks. Not enough gears. My old DTT 47RH from Canada was built up nice with billet parts an the old single disc converter DTT started out with. Its still strong after all these years. I only was putting about 430 hp through it though, but it was pulling a 44' long 5th wheel toy hauler. I'm amazed how long that trans has lasted, it still shifts hard and fast. Its a different animal compared to my Goerends 48RE. Thankfully we had those trans gurus, the stockers didn't last long with all the added power!

I did quite a few things to my old 2001. Almost wish I would have kept it. It ran and pulled really well, but even with my tinkering it stands no chance of staying with my 2012. I had a lot of fun modifying my 2001 though. I had the 6 speed manual in that truck. I would be hard-pressed to want it over my 68rfe though. From what I have picked-up browsing other forums the new automatics will break if more power is added, but I personally haven't found the desire for more power. That may change someday, but I am very happy with the power output and power band I have now.

Here with everyone else still, spent a lot of time in, out, and around the 04... replaced a lot of parts, added a lot, customized like all, enjoyed;.. but alas... my 20' is hands down better in almost ever aspect and it has a warranty. I am spending my wrench time now on other projects and enjoying "not" working on the RAM.

Yes I know I spent a lot of money and time getting my 1999 up to what I needed and wanted. I did a rough list a couple of times. It was a sizable amount .and I got none of it back when sold. This new truck will remain stock and I will lose no money on after market parts etc Now you can buy a truck right out of the box that’s got most everything I did really . I’m amazed. I had not really followed new trucks over the years. And when I went to order a new 2022 couldn’t believe it. Some of the pollution stuff is not good but it’s the sign of the times. I’m really impressed with my new truck. So when we complain about the cost of a new truck it’s there all ready. But the new trucks have many more bells and whistles and folks want that and they cost more. And I have a warranty. I think about my old 99 and miss it in someways. I really like the sound of it but most people said it was way to loud .Now I’m enjoying the quiet.

I like the low cost of holding on to my old ones. The 98 SRW is gone, didn't handle my trailers well. I kept the two dually trucks, a 95 and an 03. They are old enough that the plates are $30 something now, insurance is very low too. Really haven't spent much on repairs, just two transmission rebuilds. Put ujoints and ball joints on the 95, the exhaust has been changed a couple times. But, the 03 hasn't needed much at all beyond the trans rebuild, two water pumps and an injector line is all so far. I tend to keep cars and trucks I like a long time! Just the usual wear items.

Kept an 85 Blazer till it was scrap. The 2011 Honda Accord was reliable, just too low for my area. I traded it for a loaded AWD 2014 CRV and I don't plan on changing anytime soon. That CRV has never had a single issue needing repair so far. Never been back to the dealer. Wish I could say that about my Ram trucks! I think the trucks benefited from all the mods, the 03 has the original injectors probably due to the AirDog. The 03 3500 has the original exhaust too, the paint is toast though.

I guess I stopped caring about looks so much. At one time new vehicles were important to me, had to have the latest hot Cadillac, Ford lightning sport truck or the latest go fast whatever. The older I get the more I like older stuff I can work on. I like old tractors and farming junk. I have looked at the new trucks, but I just can't spend that much money till I really NEED a new truck. I do like the idea that the used trucks will be less likely modified, the new trucks will probably make better buys on the used market. I bought my 1995 3500 used with 26K on it around 2004, it was surprisingly bone stock. Still had the original tires on it, dry rotted, but original. :)

My 1995 is stock. Other than a brief fling with a K&N air filter, it is stock. The transmission, I rebuilt it myself with a very minor “kit” around 203,000 miles. The signature mileage is right on, fixing to roll on past 450,000 any day now.

It has 160hp / 420 lb ft torque. Remember those days? In the right lane with the big rigs?

My Fummins is a 12 valve that is more of an On/Off switch, belches smoke if I get into off boost, angry to drive, “marine engine” with enough upgrades to be a 400hp land lubber and other than loving the OBS Fords to death, I’d trade it tomorrow for the driveability of a new common rail...which it may just get sooner than later.

I did a lot of mods on my old 91 non-intercooled D250. Intake, exhaust, injectors, modified fuel pin, frankenturbo. Attended quite a few CTD gatherings in Ansonia. Dynoed on a Dynojet a couple of times. Went from stock 160/400 to 260/605. Not a lot but enough to spank a Duramax LOL
This one is staying stock as far as the powertrain goes.

Still a bomber of sorts, but as so many have mentioned these power trains are great from the get go so power mods aren’t exactly needed like in the 12 valve days. Now my mods mostly consist of appearance mods to make it one of my own. Rims, tires, running boards, AEV front and rear bumpers etc... still plays with trucks but just taking a different course.

J, the Derby coffee nights were a blast along with seefood pot lucks, dez dyno days and many a trip to massdiesel. NETDP was a awesome 10 year part of my life and I’m still friends with a bunch of the core guys, have gone to their weddings and they came to mine. It’s amazing how these trucks brought us together and created some life long friendships.

That's right it was Derby coffee nights. I almost forgot about the seafood feasts, thanks for reminding me. Yes like you I still do some mods but mostly functional ones. Aries power steps, Amp tailgate step, mud guards, bug shield, tonneau cover, etc.
My son still has his 05 3500 SRW, it's chipped and twin turbos, a real rocket ship.
