Where Are We?

Just watching some of the coverage on the fires in California. Thought about member Willieslover and wondered if he or any others have suffered or were at risk.

If so here's hoping for the best.

Good luck, Ronnie

Gary (Willyslover) is up in Northern California, in no danger from these fires. Myself, I'm about 30 miles from one fire and 50 or so from another. So far no danger to me. I do live in a very rural area up in the hills though, but its high desert and lacks the vegetation for fuel that some of these other fire prone areas have. The winds have changed direction now though and we are getting a ton of smoke and ash blown our way, it was thick enough last night to make it uncomfortable to breathe.

On my drive home at night, the hillsides and mountain tops are all aglow from these huge fires - the entire Los Angeles basin and surrounding areas all the way down to the Mexican border are filled with smoke. Its quite a mess, I feel for the people who are directly being affected.

A surreal experience....

I live just a few miles from San Bernardino mountains, fortunetly across the valley so no danger. At night, from my house, I have a full view of the disaster. The fire areas are in very steep, mountain terrain so fighting it from air is about all they can do. Due to winds, the planes have been grounded for many of the daytime hours. I have lived here all my life and many of the areas burning haven't ever burned that I can remember so the amount of fuel for the fire in enormous. The air in the valley is so bad from all the smoke and the ashes have been raining down for days. My dad owns a vacation house in an area currently burning, he has no idea if it still is standing and has no way to find out. My inlaws also have a home in another area close by that was evacuated yesterday, it may go in the next day or so. I am not an overly religious person but the fire fighters really could use God's help on this.

Well let me tell you. I am a public school teacher in the Del Rosa area of San Bernardino. This area is a DISASTER. Several students families have lost their homes, others who lived paycheck to paycheck and have not been able to work while being evacuated are facing homelessness. Others who evac'd and homes did not burn got looted of all they had. Nobody deserves this, especially not the kids.

TWO MILES

The fire burned within to miles of my home. We were ready to evacuate but the winds die down. We made it through with out any damage. My son and I went to watch the fire and found a group of about fifty to hundred people were already watching. It was like a big camp fire, people setting in lawn chairs and drinking beer. The sheriff came and told everyone to leave, but no one did. We were watching some people trying to save their home with out any fire fighters. Would have helped but finally the fire trucks came and everyone was told to leave. They told the home owners to leave after they had saved their home and the fire fighter turned off their water. Maybe the fire fighter want the credit. I know several people that have lost their homes. Some are evacuated and are waiting to get back in. Scripps Ranch was hit pretty hard.

I had just washed my truck on Saturday and now it is covered with ash. The day before I was driving down a street and passed a parked construction truck in the center lane. They had an air line from the truck across the street. Someone must have pull the hose because it clothes lined me at the front bumper. Did damage to the top plastic part of the bumper. The construction truck had no insurance to speak of and the drive did not have a license. The manger of the company showed up and said he would take care of it. Only time will tell.

Been a hard few of days.

We up here in British Columbia know what you guy's are going thru with the fires. We had are worst fire season ever (and now floods. ) The power of these things can't be under estimated and the wrath the bring I don't wish upon anyone. We've offered up 100+ experienced personnel, 10 water bombers and 2 air drop Helicopters to your Governor, but haven't heard back. Hopefully it's because you have it all under control. Hope it works out for all involved. Cheers, Tardog

From what I heard, you weren't the only ones turned away or not responded to. There have been others who have been turned away. All politics, either with Gray Davis or the unionized Fire Dept It is irresponsible to do that. Alot more devastation and deaths could be prevented with more help.
