How much "Exercise" time is needed for standby diesels?

My work truck is a 1997 "super duty" Ford with 58,000 miles.

(equivalent to an F450)

It has no power, I can’t even get it to scratch the tires, and all it has is a large service bed on it that is near empty. The auto shifts REALLY hard sometimes, and other times it works normally. Are there any cheap tricks to give this truck some more oomph? I would not mind at all if I scattered the transmission, maybe then the garage would actually be forced to fix the transmission. It is a company vehicle, and I would like to keep any modifications under $300, and make them easy to hide or remove.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Peter

Powr Mods

You can probably pick up a used Superchips microtuner for about $275. 00. They just plug in to the diagnostic port under the dash and it downloads a program into your trucks computer for more power. Takes about 5 minutes to do. Oo.

The last superchips programmer that I bought for a buddy with a psd recorded the vin number off of his computer so it could only be used on that truck after that.

Two of the quick easy mods the PS guys do is shimming the pressure regulator and installing the 10 K resistor. Both supposedly offer a better throttle response.

Go to www.thedieselstop.com and search "10K resistor mod" and "shimming the regulator" in the PSD forum. You will pull up info on it there

The MLP (manual lever position) sensor is a common item that likes to act up on those E4OD trannies... it could be faulty/dirty or out of adjustment... When they get bad enough to cause problems... the OD light on the gear shifter usually flashes...

A hard/delayed 1-2 shift is also pretty common as well...

Cool,

I'll turn it into the garage for the transmission problem again and put that description down on the repair tag.

I don't think there is a supertuner for the F450's, but that resistor mod sounds easy... hmmm

Thanks again!

I just sold a TSPerformance Powerstroke chip for a 7. 3. I won it as a door prize. I had my choice of 50, 75, 100 or 125 setting. It went for $225. That 125 setting would sure force them to fix your transmission!

The gent who bought it had an econoline van so he had to settle for the 50 setting since he has no wastegate or intercooler in the van application.
