Guns, Bows, Shooting Sports, and Hunting I'm So Jealous!!!

My chrono hasn't been used in years, but was stored properly in it's original box with no battery in it. Back in the day, my fellow Club members and I spent many evening hours at The Archery Shed (my friend's pro shop) tuning and tweaking bows looking for that magical 300fps. They all do that and more now...

Anyway, my son and his friend are doing a high school science project involving arrow speeds and the effect of weight upon them. They spent yesterday setting up and trying to record speeds.

Just before I had to go to work last night, my son informed me the chrono was not working and would only read "30 fps" every time, so the project was in jeopardy. I have not had a chance to look at it yet, but feel certain there is no good reason for it to not work right.

When he gets home and brings it to me or shows me where he put it , I'll take a look.

I was just wondering if anyone here knows much about them or what might be the problem? It was working well when stored.

Did they use the "sky screens" or "light diffusers" that came with the unit? Too bright a light will cause false readings. Is it a very short system that the arrow can be over both start and stop units at the same time? That may cause a "fault". Were the arrows fired within about four inches of the start / stop units? Might have been too far away. Does the system have a "full reset" key sequence that resets it to factory default values? A unit not used in a long time may have a buildup of dust over the readouts. Was it used indoors? Might not be sufficient light - the opposite problem of using it on a sunny day outdoors without the shades. Did anyone clean the cable connectors - might be as simple as some oxidation on a connector or some "crud" inside the female connector on one of the units if it requires cables to be plugged in to set it up. Did anyone test the battery that was used on a real battery tester - not just assume it was good? I know you said it was stored properly, but did anyone check for minor corrosion or oxidation on the battery contacts from previous usage? My chrono requires the user to put it in the right "mode" before firing - how about yours? OK - out of ideas for now - hope you find the issue and it is free to fix! Most of my problems are between my own ears!
