Any comments on towing with a 2000, 3500, 4x4, with 3. 55 gears, 5 speed, stock clutch, BHAF, No muffler/res. I currently have the EZ and stock injectors. I was thinking 275's, but I sure would hate to waste my money on those and change my mind to DD 2's in the future. I tow a lot and I don't want to make an EGT flaming, clutch burning, smoking monster...

I would like to hear comments by others running a something close to this.

I have that exact setup with some of your other mods (BHAF, no muffler) and frequently tow 8-12k with no EGT problems at all. I have an auto transmission with DTT upgrades. Your stock clutch probably won't last long with an EZ and DD2's, though. Smoke isn't much of a problem with the DD2's unless you nail it from a dead stop. I did notice during the last couple of weeks that high humidity will make the truck smoke more.

Steve

edit: My EGT's are about 650 unloaded on the flats and max out at about 1200 on the hills with a good load behind the truck. These are pre-turbo numbers...

Don't know if this will be much help:

2001 3500 4x4, had EZ DD2's, auto, 4:10's Pulled a trailer like mad.

same truck, DTT VB & TC, COMP, DD2's, pulls even better. I keep the comp on 1x5 when towing, Some smoke in humid weather, egt's stay around 800 F on the flat, climbs up from there on grades. How much depends on speed, grade, and weight. 10k lbs 4-6% grade, usually peaks out at around 1200 at about 65mph.

Tim,

I had the exact setup and didn't have any problems towing 7K lbs. I would put the EZ on the far left jumper or middle setting to control smoke. Since your truck is a 5 speed, I think your clutch should be okay if you don't nail the throttle.

Definitely go with DD2's. Got mine at Piers.

I have the edge ez and 275's. If you get the DD2's you better have a little cash laid back. You will need one after a while. I think my oem clutch lasted about 23,000 miles. It would not slip all the time but I got one while I had the extra $$. I would like to try the DD2's. The ez and the 275 with the HO 6 spd make for one awsome pulling machine.

I have the same with an auto. Just installed the DD 2's two weeks ago. (See my sig for the rest of the upgrades) Love them. I do have a little bit of an EGT problem. Going up a 6% grade with my 10,000 lb trailer I can hit 1400 degrees but I am also traveling 65 mph when I do that. If I back off to 60 they stay around 1250 degrees

Since I havn't heard any real negatives on the DD2's I think that is the route I will go. I will buy the DD2's and gauges all at the same time.

Any reccomendations on where to get them other then Piers???

MAke sure when you call Stefan you tell him you are a TDR member. I don't if you will get a better price but it is worth a try. I bought mine from PDR because they had a better advertised price. I have heard since then that the TDR is the magic word and things come cheaper after that
