Any difference between 03, Early 04?

You might watch the ETC / ETH engines. Pop the hood and look at the label on the side of the valve cover. The "high output" motor of the time would be the 305 horse (ETH) and the "standard output" (ETC) would be 2 something (285?).



Is it an automatic? If so, check the trannys too - I don't know when the switch was made to the 48RE versus the 47RE but its worth checking. The 48RE is a stout transmission.
 
I'm not looking at a particular truck, but I am thinking about upgrading. Wanting to go back to a manual truck and like the third gens.
 
The 03 and early 04's with a manual transmission have only one difference that I know of and it's no big deal.



The 03's have a separate Powertrain Control Module (PCM). On the 04's, that function is built into the ECM.
