We have an Eaton automated 6 speed- not sure of model- in a KW T300 hybrid. It's been the most troublesome part of the truck. That said ithas about 4500 hours of very heavy congested city hiway short runs. BIG, you being a hand shaker from day one, and if you intend to wheel it, and that thing shifts like our thing, it will drive you crazy. It basically does real easy granny shifts no matter how hard you push it.
It is a marvel how clean it does manage but can be annoying. Better drive it first.

I don't have first hand experience, but can tell you my BIL drove triaxle dumps, and when his Freightshaker went in for extended repair, which was waaaay too often, he would sometimes end up with a loaner from the dealer with an Eaton Auto-Shift. He hated it, and it would sometimes get in the middle of an intersection and have a conniption fit and leave him sitting there. Later, his boss sold out to a larger fleet that had a bunch of Auto-Shifts, and they had their hands full with problems. Lastly, when I was back East we were a Benjamin Moore dealer, and they had a bunch of Aeromaxes and Sterlings with them. The drivers hated them, and they had the same conniption fit issues described above.

I believe that we are now into a second generation of auto shift transmissions. Less troublesome than the first generation. I will ask our medium-duty salesman tomorrow about this 6 speed Eaton transmission they will get the bugs worked out for sure, you just don't need to be a guinea pig for a bad one

One issue with the first generation UltraShift was trying to back up against a loading dock. Almost like a ping pong ball bouncing between a paddle and the wall

I thank you for the info, I did drive a Pete 337 medium duty truck with a rebadged Cummins motor. It ran flawlessly but I don't think that Pete is stupid enough to turn a POS over to a perspective customer.

I didn't back to a dock and in its intended use it probably wouldn't if its bought. Just asking for evaluations on it and I appreciate yours very much.

The first gen Ultra Shift may not be a fair comparison either. Those really were wretched. Just trying to ease one bobtail into a shop bay gently was simply impossible.

We had one in one of our tankers on the fire department, it would get stupid and would not up shift in a given gear, never the same gear. Had to pull over and shut it down to get it to reset it's self. Try that on your way to a fire!
