Any idea where I can get a spare tire lock for a 96 Ram w/ 8' bed?

#@$%!I honestly believe I should rename my '96 Ram 2500 w/8' box "Tin Lizzie" because trying to find any aftermarket part (or a Mopar part, for that matter) is like trying to find something for a model T. (Sorry to bring up brand 'F' but I am quite frustrated at this point. ) I'm looking for a new spare tire lock, the old one rusted so severely that it did not 'survive' the removal process. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the make/model, but it is pictured below (the one with the key, bar & “U” piece):

However, the only site where I could actually find it said they do not have one in stock for the ’96 Ram. They also did not have a part number (or Manufacturer’s name). So I began to look for the Mopar (McGuard) locking device (p/n 82203352):

But apparently, Dodge parts only go back to 2005. After calling McGuard, they gave me a Mopar Part number for the 1996 model year, but Dodge said it is no longer available.

I'm not really interested in a "cable lock". Does anyone know if I can get either of the above types of spare tire locks for my 96 Ram 2500 (8' Box) and if so, where? So far, eBay has been a no go.

I use a length of strong heavy chain and a good master pad lock, which is wrapped around the frame and the rim.

You know, that looks a lot like any one of the trailer hitch locks here:

I know they're not the same thing, but I wonder if you could make any of them work. Also, have you tried a local locksmith shop? Even if they don't have it on the shelf maybe they have a catalog or order book that you can look through. When I bought my camper I was looking for a 5th wheel king pin lock and found some cheap flimsey ones at the RV place. I went to the locksmith shop and he wasn't too familiar with it, but looked it up in his book. He was able to order one and in a week I had a very nice lock. Maybe you can do the same.

I saw one of those earlier. It doesn't look like it would work for my application. I have the under-the-bed winch/carrier.

Unfortunatly, it looks like that'll be the way that I'll have to go.

I don't get it!

What could possibly be better then a good chain and a pad lock. I've own a truck continuous from 71 to the present time. Chain and padlock is what I've used and I have never had my spare stolen or messed with.

Back in 2001 I bought my lock from Motive service and supply in Indiana. The phone # I have is 317-776-3583. The lock # was WL200GMR @ $21. 95. I have since modified the lock but I believe it was the lock you pictured in your post  Good Luck
