Any interest in moving a dually?

Anyone need anything hauled?

Towing videos in BlueRidge Mtns.

Looking to have a dually moved from outside Richmond VA, to Laurel Mt. in the next few weeks or month.

Would like to give the business to someone on TDR.

Well, I was thinking of trailer haul. I have been looking into shipping companies... . talking with a middle man (broker) who would post it on a board to be picked up. I am open to ideas though.

The truck runs, titled and insured by the present owner as we are in the middle of the deal.

It is somewhat difficult to trailer a Ram dually. They are generally too wide and too heavy for anything less than a triple axle or tandem dual wheel gooseneck flatbed like hotshotters use. U-Haul and other rental companies don't have a trailer large or strong enough. I know because I once looked into haulling one in case I had a break down. No luck. Fortunately I never had the breakdown.

The only way you are likely to get it hauled is by an OTR flatbed tractor trailer wanting a backhaul. That would depend on luck and finding someone who was in VA and wanted to travel toward MT. I don't know if any regular freight routes run from VA to near Billings where you want it hauled.

In order to get someone to drive it for you the truck will have to be registered and insured by you. The seller is going to keep his license plates in most states, cancel the registration immediately, and cancel his insurance.

Unless someone in VA particularly wants a free trip from VA to MT it is not going to be easy to get someone to fly to VA, drive your truck to MT, and fly home again. You might find a sailor or marine in VA who lives in MT and wants a cheap way to get home if you advertise in local Craig's List in Richmond and Norfolk, Virginia Beach.

I suppose if the truck is registered and insured by you a driver with a small car with a towbar might be willing to hook his car on the back of your truck, drive it to MT, and drive his small car back home. Nobody is going to be willing to do that unless you are paying well.

I priced OTR... . 1000 to 1500 dollars. Good idea on a Craig's List post. I just thought there might be some guys on here hauling things, whom might want some business. Naive on my part; maybe.

DValentine,

It is an easy mistake to make. Posts similar to yours pop up on TDR from time to time. Most of the time they are unanswered.

My mapping software says the distance is 2100 miles. The overall cost to operate a truck like our Rams is around $0. 50/mile or more than $1000 just to make the trip. Pulling a trailer would add to the cost. It would require about 3 or 4 days to drive so meals and lodging would cost another $300 or $400 at a minimum. Most people would expect to be paid wages for their time and trouble. RV transport companies are paying around $1. 10 to $1. 30/mile last time I heard for drivers to pull their trailers.

My rough estimates are for one way only. The chance of finding someone who lives in Richmond, VA and wants to travel one way to Laurel, MT are perhaps one in a million. Realistically you have to figure a driver would have to dead head from somewhere else to pick up the truck and dead head to another place after delivering it to you.

If I were you I would plan my vacation time to go get the truck myself.

Sorry to offend those who haul, or those who have hauled, as it was not my intent. I was trying to see if it was plausible, not to lowball someone trying to make a living.

I don't think you offended anyone. You asked an honest question. You received an honest answer. It usually doesn't hurt to ask. Someone might be interested.

Who you need is a fellow like Harvey. He's retired, independently wealthy, has a lot of time on his hands, and likes to drive his truck. He might actually think of it as a small vacation!

And to top it off, Harvey has such a sweet disposition!! :-laf

Getting another one Dave? Hope you have a better experience than the last time! ;)

Good luck on getting it home.

If you are looking for a 24ft deckover gooseneck that is ugly but very capable we might work out a deal.
